whats a 2 door jap car worth in scrap nowadays? 02 toyota to be specific

about 4 cents a pound around here. Just scrapped the 66 shell got a whopping 100 bucks.. But i got my yard cleaned up soo there is that.

I took 4500# in yesterday, and got $140. So not much. That cars probably under 3000#.

My son dismantles them, converter, wiring, aluminum it's all separated.
He get's way more but he also sits on it until the price is good.

lol..... no wonder i never wasted my time....... i usually drop my **** off at the local yard and am happy for a place to take it....... i never ask for money because they let me roam the yard full of old crap......

That's a good price. Last time I took steel scrap...as in iron beams and posts...I got about $12.50 for just over a ton. Hardly worth my while, but it saved me a tipping fee. Bought enough gas to get me home again.....and I wasn't cluttering my yard up.

I removed a shitton of conduit from an old sheetrock plant. Took me all day and part of the next day to remove and put on a trailer. The scrap yard was less than a mile away. The only saving grace is I was being paid 500.00 to remove it. That was the easy part. Took the scrap to the yard and got a big old 60.00 that I had to split with the other guy.. Whoo hoo. I don't see how people do that **** for a living. I mean 2 days work 60 bucks.. Next time right into the dumpster that **** goes.

I can see the guys that scrap junked cars.. Pretty much hook it and drop it and make 150 bucks.. Do that 5 times a day thats decent money. But actually doing the physical labor **** don't cut it. And damn sure isn't worth it.

Scrap not going to China and the price drops?
exactly.
the highest we ever got paid here in Ny state was Many years ago for 330 a ton.
that was when China was buying up ship after shipload of steel and sitting them out in the bays for future use.
then they Stopped buying it literally overnite and the market dropped like a stone.
since then its been as low as 65 a ton,and is currently at 128 a ton.
i cashed out 2 metric tons for around 254? i think the other day.

now,for those of you who dont know what cars weigh,
todays newer cars dont weigh much of anything to start with.
unless you Fill them up with more scrap, you arent gonna make Squat,
and if you are buying cars to scrap,
God help you if you dont use your head when making deals..

for an example,i took a shell and a frame and a dead engine and loaded the trailer Full of extra scrap/parts etc etc.
there was maybe 1200 lbs to start off with, maybe!
...and i loaded another 2500lbs of scrap into it.
about 2 days worth of work, for a 200 dollar payout.
(ps,always cut Off the catalytic convertors and cash them separately )

so you really have to Work at being a scrapper to actually make money.
Especially as some of these yards have gone to the Metric ton,and not the US ton.
2200 versus 2000lbs to make a ton.

plus, youll notice,im not even getting into the subject of Fluids, removals, and storage.

sCRAP IN MY AREA IS waaaaaaay DOWN . The last load I sent out (open top gondola style semi trailer ) had 6 cars in varying stages of dismantle. And a few forks full of cut-offs and other crap. This brought less than $800... a few months ago that same load would have brought around $1400. Granted this is minus copper and minus aluminum.... but aluminum is down also. My last aluminum load was about 2K shy of what it should have been.

Another thing is that CHINA is sitting on millions of tons YES MILLIONS, of scrap. They got a crap load when prices were way up. We briefly hit $385 here back when. But they're building boom is pretty much over (comparatively). It will take a long time before they will have a heavy need again

$85/ton for scrap steel/shredder tin around here

Scrap steel's not worth the hassle in my opinion...now, b&s copper is a whole nother thang! If it wasn't for that, my car would still be in pieces in the garage LOL. It's affectionately called 'rabbit'.. you guys in the electrical trade know what I'm talking about!

around here it's between $4 and $5 per 100 pounds

it was $12 when I started saving it :(

it was very briefly $6.50 about 6 months ago

If I see that again, I'm going to take a load

I am an old fart and have seen new rolded from the mill at .17 a pound. We have not gotten there yet.

Sounds about right...we hit about $600 a ton for steel when China was going gangbusters for all the scrap in the world....then it plummeted. Our dollar is worth about US$0.65 now.
