Wagon Headliner Bow Trim

Kudos to you for your efforts.

Thanks khryslerkid. The plastic I used is a paintable grade, so one could try and cover white with silver/chrome paint. Not sure about trialing a clear plastic.

If they fit a 62 hardtop, I'll take some, white or not.

If either of you would like a sample piece to test fit to your metal bows, just shoot me a PM with your address and I’ll send you a shorter piece.

KK I'll be watching and hearing your results with baited breath. As I really want a full set of these for my HT.
The 62 originals where vacuum anodised (same as dash bezel)on the back giving the chrome look.
Ours seem to be not so wide profile (see pic) but maybe they could be trimmed

Would be great it they came in 'clear' I agree.

This is a great endeavour and I applaud you EJL

Ours do look narrower but if it fits in between the panels and clips on the runners nobody would know the difference. I used the perforated hardboard that you normally see on the Plymouths and nobody has noticed that. My bows were in good shape and I was careful removing and re installing them.

My Belvedere's headliner is in decent shape but would be better to be freshened up. I wet wiped mine and a dry powder like substance came off. The bows aren't bad with one cracked and one has a broken end. Are the metal end clips available and if so, where? Just wondering if it would be a can of worms trying to remove the panels and paint them. Has anyone attempted to spray paint their headliner? Is there a recommended paint?

It was 99 degrees in my shop yesterday, and we aren't even to June yet.

Typically July and August are brutal with high 90's outside temp and up to high 90's humidity.

According to NWS it got to 91% humidity a few times yesterday!

This should be a pretty good test of the staying power of the trim to the metal and the durability of the trim.

Park it outside in the sun with the windows up!

Keep me posted on any issues you find.

Well I finally received my initial samples today of the new plastic trim pieces.

I plan on installing them in my wagon this weekend to confirm fit and retention. Hopefully they work as intended.

Hi! Just came across this thread ... I need to replace the headliner bow trim pieces on my 62 Fury. The moldings you got look like they would work! Is there any way to get these moldings still? Thanx!

Rilko, yes you can still get them from me. I believe I just sent out a sample piece last week to another member with a 62 for him to compare to his originals and confirm fit. Send me a pm and I’ll provide details.

I wanted to bump this thread to keep the word out about the trim I have available. I just delivered three pieces to member Rilko and he replied back he was very happy with the look and fit of the trim in his 62 Fury. I know the 62 original trim is slightly different in width, but works great for replacement if needed.

YY1, any issues on your end yet?

Id like to see pics from @rilko

Nope and we've had some days where my car indicator read 103, 105 and 107!

Shop has to be a bit hotter.

However, we've had a dose of lower than normal humidity.
It's "only" been in the 75% range.

105 is actually bearable at 70% whereas 85 degrees with 90% humidity is not

Hi All! I have just finished a restore on a 62 Fury and installed orig style rigid headliner. Sourcing the orig style plastic trim pieces is impossible and member EJL was extremely helpful and supplied me with a very suitable alternative plastic trim. They worked great for me and look fantastic IMHO as long as you are OK with not 100% orig look. Pics attached. Once again, BIG thanx to EJL for helping me out here ... wasn't sure how I would deal with this! BTW, if someone looking for the orig trim pieces I have one of the shorter pieces that is still in good useable condition if that helps somene!

Looks just fine

Are they just a bit wider than original ones?

What headliner did you use?

Great looking '62 !

Interesting, not just for wagons.

Cool

Thanks Rilko, I’m glad I could help and I appreciate you taking the time to post pics of your car and provide feedback. Very nice car BTW.

For anyone else interested in these trim pieces and you’re going to Carlisle, you can view samples of the material if you stop by the Restoration Parts and Materials tent and ask for Richard. Their tent is in rows H and I in spots 138 through 143. I sent Richard some short sample pieces for display.

It looks like my brother and I are going again this year, so I could bring full pieces or sets for anyone who wants to purchase. We are only going to be there on Friday though. Send me a PM if interested.

The headliner is from REM Automotive. The strips are a bit wider that the orig pieces ... snapped onto metal bows nicely ... think they will hold well going forward ... just need to ensure good fit of rigid headliner pieces!
