Yep Im at fault didnt check the coupler and started to install on shaft. 2 pins in and WHAT THE well I hope they will send me a new one. Also was told horn will not work so you must soider a wire over the joint on coupling. $115 for coupling. check out top hole for pin.Way to close to the edge.

I cannot see the problem. What am I missing?

5 holes instead of 6,they guide the bit threw steering shaft and the 1 hole was drilled side ways. If you look its 3/16 down on 1 side and on the edge of the other side.

somebody screwed up on the machining of those parts wonder how many out there not noticed

I cannot locate a good pic on line of both sides, but I am willing to bet that it only came with 3 holes. You drill one, pin, second, pin, and the last, then pin. I am sure that you drilled the hole cockeyed. If you drilled it by hand, you could have leaned it to one side causing it to walk. With a side pressure, the original hole will get wallerd out like using a file or reamer. It is no big deal as it will still secure the coupler and shaft in conjunction with the other two. Drill the last hole and call it a day. As far as a strap for the horn, metal on metal on metal means conductivity. Use an ohmmeter and check thru different angles and see if its conductivity is continuous.

I happen to have an extra coupler sitting on a shelf (don't ask why) The holes are on one side, you just have to drill completely thru so the roll pins can be removed with a pin punch.

And I checked to make sure, the coupler ohms out, so you should not need an additional ground as long as the steering box shaft is grounded through the gears/case.

And yes, I think the upper end of the coupler could be .250" longer, however the load is torsional, very little linear stress and roll pins are rather strong. I did a double take at first. You have three pins and the wall of the coupler, so it would take a lot of force to tear from a twisting motion.

what about a tac weld on each side for extra safety

Mine was drilled threw on 2 holes and the 3rd was not.Package was open ,now that makes me wonder if someone returned it.

well all in all I would buy this set up again. Handles great and no more fighting the wheel at a stand still. Yep getting old

Any reason you went with the u-joint coupler and cut your shaft instead of using the Bergman coupler that looks like our stock couplers and requires no shaft cutting?

Depending on the car, one may still need to cut the shaft with the Bergman coupler.

Forgot about them , I still have to install the proper year column so guess I will look into theirs.
