Cutting Braided Stainless Steel.....how to

Use a very thin cut-off wheel....make sure you remove the cable before cutting

Tape up using electrical tape as said above, and check for frayed ends. Slide the cup end over before removing the tape....help to keep the strands together.
You couldn't tell me that before 10:43pm!? Heck, Was producing ZZZZZZZ's by then. Hit the bed about 10:35 and was out like a light within minutes lol. But, did it just like you said and it came out good! And tried the shrub nippers on a piece of scrap cable and well, I'd say they are not a tool to use on stainless lol

And thanks for all the replies. My old race car in the early 80's had stainless steel fuel lines to the 2x4 setup but someone else did all that. Besides, had I done it back then, I for sure probably would not have remembered!

What I'm cutting is a Lokar kickdown cable that's 1/4" diameter.....might just test a pair of shrub nips lol

i just cut to lenght the lokar throttle cable,,,i used the blue painters masking tape,1 1/2" wide,,centered over the cut mark,,slide the sleeve back,,then used a cut off wheel air tool,,the trick is going slow with the wheel so as not to unravel the steel braid,,let the wheel do the work with very little pressure,,then i always remove the tape, espeacially on oil/gas applications..works great, doing it that way for years.

Thought I was going slow until I touched the wheel to the work lol. It went in like butter and pulled a bit sideways before I got off of it. It turned out ok though.

just tried something a little different today. i was out uf tape so i used shrink wrap it turned out great.

Great idea....and probably just as quick or even quicker to use.

I now use Fragola''s nylon braided hose and ends. So much easier than the steel braided hose. I think the black on black looks much better than the blue/red fittings. Also, much lighter as well. After doing an entire cars. It is a decent weight savings.

Put tape on what needs to be cut. Used a cut-off wheel on a dotco or a die-grinder and no fraying
