This Hobby is hard enough without guys like you

Bum city! You’re being the nice guy posting here and offering to drive a substantial distance to pick them up. I guess that’s a nice thing to do but it’s slim chance that it will actually happen. As others have adamantly stated - the shops on the hook. I wouldn’t wait 15 more minutes before Holding them accountable. You really got a raw deal so far. Hope somehow it f
Gets made right. Let us know.

How do you know his aren't going to be better than yours ?!?!? It might be wise to wait till they're done before you get all bent out of shape.

I 've owned a small business for 30 years and yes "stuff " does happen but there is no wy i would tell a customer about this without first saying "I wii make sure you have bumpers for your car in a timely fashion". the chrome shop sucks *** for not offering this right up front. What do they think your just going to ?shrug your shoulders and walk away, screw that. They got his info make them go get it and then demand a discount for your troubles.[really they should offer it ].

It sounds like the shop is trying to retrieve your bumpers. Next time you call or stop by the shop ask what their next steps will be since calling is not working.

The shop should have a plan and the responsibility is on them so make sure the shop understands that. Discuss thier plan to get your items back with the shop so it is agreeable with you as far as timeline and actions or worst case that you will expect the shop to replace the items to your satisfaction and put a date for when that happens or it could drag on.

If you take point on the retrieve directly you let the shop off the hook and risk being taken by the law as the problem and not the solution when they look at chain of custody of your items.

Shop is number 1 on the hook, civilly. Send the POS a registered letter. That way if he ignores it or plays dumb, I'd say a criminal charge (larceny) would be appropriate.

give them 24 hours and then call the cops

well you have a receipt showing you don't off those bumpers ? if so the shop is responsible for your cores . if they don't stand up on it . your next bumper should be a free rechrome job . i have an extra rear for my 69 runner .

yep, your property was stolen and the shop was an accomplice

Hey guys Thanks for all the support. Yes the shop knows its their fault and are trying to get me some bumpers done while still trying to get mine back trouble is 69 bumpers are hard to find. They called the other day and said they found a 68 pair they would chrome up quick, I had to tell them that 68 don't have the back up lights in them, not sure if the fronts are the same or not. Oh and they said his bumpers needed a lot of work and are trying to find bumpers that will be as nice as mine were. So I guess if any one has nice bumpers out there it might be an option if shop will cover cost and shipping. pomonamissel please message me about your extra rear bumper.

Tell them to buy you a set of Goodmark's and then rechrome them. They're actually comparable to original factory out of the box but if its show chrome you're after they'll need to be redone.

erm i know right where a set of 69 bumpers is and so do they.
the guy they gave yours to.

number one, this phone tag story is bs.
a real shop would have sent a runner/worker out after this guy and tagged the boss when he got there and found the location.
then if the thief, didnt give up the goods,
the runner would have called the cops and watched the thief while waiting for the cops and boss to arrive.

this whole story of well,we will find you a set while we wait for the good graces of ??
who,the thief?..the cops?.....the shop? to get back what they Gave away?
just shows you that this shop lacks any sense of professionalism.

your bumpers were stolen in a case of Fraud...but..who Did the fraud?
id like you to keep this in mind...you only have the shops word for what really happened.
what if,they really did Give your bumpers to the guy legit??
and the guy had no idea so he left with what he thought Was his?

no matter how it went,
that shop is responsible and i would make them pay fully And never use them again.
it already sounds like you are doing Their work for them,
looking for replacement bumpers when you Owned a set that were nice.

Enough already. Hire a lawyer.

the shop has insurance tell them to pony up a new set or you will be going to small claims court.

make sure you get a police report and then have a value of replacements from 3 differents vendors

Listen to Russ...This is all bullshit and dont play into it. This shop says another customer "convinced" there employee your bumpers was his????
How did that work and forgive me it sounds more like a mistake, legit or not, rather than a crime. How does one prove a crime here? Its the POS customer's word against the shop's owner. He brought a set of bumpers in also, did he not? Who's to say who owned what and exactly how is this proven.
So were does that leave you?
A consultation with a attorney will cost you money and my opinion is you could have to sue for the bumpers and attorney fee's. You may wind up doing just that.
Dont get involved looking for bumpers, if yours were OE and in good shape thats what you want back. Its there problem not yours.
Give them a specified amount of time and no more, no bumpers , sue them to the moon and back

Sounds like an inside job to me! They need to string up that employee and make him talk, if that's what really happened. More than likely he knows the guy who got the bumper and or is making himself a little on the side.

You're being too soft with this shop!

Exactly! Forty years ago I had a little gig going on servicing lawn equipment. This was well before cheap crap from overseas and the big box stores.
I had my garage all set up and a steady supply of new and used parts. I was good at it and learning the ropes more and more, why I gave it up, I have no idea.
One spring day I had two mowers ready for return to there customers and of course I delivered. One was electric and one was gas which was fairly new. I had a locked cap on the back of my mint 72 Ford F150 and I put those machines in the back for delivery next day.
Only next day my truck was gone, stolen. I was on the hook for those machines and I made good on both. One customer was very nice and understanding and took the replacement machine no problem.
The other tried to bleed me for more money, even though I gave him a better mower than he had.
So thats one reason I have little tolerance for this BS that is happing to you.
**** happens and that shop needs to do the right thing PERIOD.

My first thought was the shop's story is baloney.
They have no way of recording, marking, labeling, customer items?
I'd call the police at the shop and wait there, let them feed their baloney to the cops.
Maybe I'm being to harsh, but the story seems made up.

nothing stops you from naming both the other customer and the shop as defendants in court

my bet is the cost of replacement bumpers and/or the rechroming is enough to be grand theft

We had a member a few years ago (Bruzilla- RIP) that had a shop switch out his engine and give it to another customer. Even though the employee that did the actual switching IIRC quit or got fired, he ended up getting his engine back.....after the cops got involved.
