This Hobby is hard enough without guys like you

No help with the bumpers, but when I worked at an engine machine shop many years ago, we always stamped blocks, cranks, heads, etc. with the repair order job number so Customer's stuff would be correctly identified. (We had the 1/4" numbered stencils that you smacked with a hammer.) That was back in the time when there may have been a half dozen or more sets of similar engines being worked on. It was common to have a bunch of small block Chevy cranks or sets of heads in our shop. And we know how important casting numbers, etc. are nowadays!

So I brought all my chrome for the 69 GTX to the chrome shop. Most of it got done really quick, went up and got what was done the two bumpers were going to take a couple week more. so got the call on a Monday bumpers are done I asked if they could hold till Friday when I was going up to Mopars in the park in Stillwater MN. That Thursday they called, some guy working on a 69 Road Runner from WI. had stopped in to get his chrome and convinced one of the employee that my bumpers were his. The chrome shop has tried calling him to get the bumpers back but last time I called the shop they told me the guy is refusing to answer their calls now. So if you visit this site and you have my bumpers I ask that you message me and I will drive all the way up to get them. Or next time I call the chrome shop I will be getting your name and address and be calling the police and will press charges for having my stolen bumpers. Thanks for letting me vent.
Had something similar happen. when my 440 was at the shop, my newly refurb'd connecting rods and brand new pistons came up missing. Helped the owner search for nearly 4 hours every square inch of the place. Never found them. Ended up forcing the owner to cover the cost for replacements. He wasnt happy but it was his fault. My advice, tell the shop to retrieve them or cover the cost for full replacements. If they decline to do either, contact a lawyer. Quickly.

Sorry. Short story. My Carter got lost at rebuild time for the 440. Business was transitioning to the son in law AND moving. I didn’t take pictures or other measures prior to dropping off engine. Lesson learned. He called and asked”what do I want to do for a carburetor. He put a Demon on. Never saw the Carter again. Didn’t charge for the Demon.

Back in April Walgreens gave my medication to the wrong person then refused to believe that i hadn't picked it up.....humiliated me by making me wait an hour & a half while they went through a back log of security videos to ascertain that i was NOT the person they gave the **** to...bastards!

Um... that is a HUGE HIPPA violation for them to have given someone else your prescription. I highly suggest, if you haven't, that you call their corporate office.

nothing stops you from naming both the other customer and the shop as defendants in court

my bet is the cost of replacement bumpers and/or the rechroming is enough to be grand theft

We had a member a few years ago (Bruzilla- RIP) that had a shop switch out his engine and give it to another customer. Even though the employee that did the actual switching IIRC quit or got fired, he ended up getting his engine back.....after the cops got involved.
the Exact same thing happened to me in spring lake NC back in the early 90-s.
i took a 340 duster in for a timing chain and a flexplate swap and did a " dropby" one day and Caught them installing My 340 into a Van.......Yeah.
the vans 318 was sitting Next to my duster and it was Obvious what they were going to do...

lets just say that those 3 guys were terrified because it was a Really small office and i was Really pissed off.
1 small desk and 3 asshats cowering behind it even....
so i called the cops they came and wrote all the vins down and told the guy he had 24 hours to get my motor back into my car running driving and Fixed or They were Going to arrest him for Theft, grand larceny.

he actually got it done and i drove away from there and never went back.
but, just imagine if i Hadnt done a dropby,
how long would it have been before i figured out why my " 340" was suddenly so down on power??
how would i have proven it if i hadnt caught them redhanded?

this,is the dilemma the OP finds himself in now.
all he has is the shops word and no bumpers,
tbh,it doesnt sound like their word is worth a damm.
i wish you the Best of Luck, in this ordeal, because i think you may need it.

So where do you stand on the resolution to this problem? Have you called the cops? hired lawyer? Have you received any info from the business as to who took the bumpers?

Sorry to hear about the screw up - it really sucks. It's not a criminal matter, though, it's a civil issue. Law Enforcement can't do anything about it legally. A well drafted letter from a lawyer will likely light a fire under the shop, though. If the shop has trouble getting the bumpers back from the guy they gave them to, then that's a civil issue between the shop and that guy. Your issue is with the shop and theirs is with the guy with the bumpers and/or their employee who gave them to him. Good luck and keep us posted.

How do you know his aren't going to be better than yours ?!?!? It might be wise to wait till they're done before you get all bent out of shape.
That's just plain dishonest, and wasting precious time to get the correct ones back.

I'll tell you what also sucks is cities and states that DEcriminalize petty crimes.
I know this seems off topic but bear with me on this.
A few years ago here in California, the politicians promoted a voter proposition to reduce the penalties for certain "NON violent" crimes. The idea was sold on the idea that the prisons were overcrowded with non violent offenders. The proposition passed and This has led to an INCREASE in crimes against both people and property. If a person has HIV, they can knowingly have the disease and have unprotected sex without a penalty. If a man steals another man's car valued UNDER $900, it is considered NOT a felony, not a misdemeanor but an INFRACTION, comparable to a speeding ticket!
Notifying the police on this matter in California would get you absolutely nowhere. They are ordered to ignore small crimes, ignore bums crapping on the streets, Illegals walking around free and the good tax paying citizens are just supposed to accept it.

Uhh, yeah but the court has no authority to enforce it's own rulings, at least here in CA.

Here they can. They issue arrest warrants for failing to pay if ordered too. They can even garnish wages directly and can even place restrictions on what type of state/county benefit programs you can be on . They are limited to a certain percentage of gross income, based on family size .

Yeah that's a real bummer and I would agree it's 100% the shops fault and they have to correct their mistake. As for California is concerned it's turning into a real **** hole I'm sorry to say it used to be a beautiful state if I could get the wife to leave I would be out of here so fast you'd swear a new land speed record was being set.

After you get a judgement in court, assets can be seized by the sherrif to obtain payment.I think that applies to the wrong coast too:usflag:

The bumpers are like the biggest piece of chrome on a 69 gtx, and they screwed it up..I would never go there again.

The cops won’t get involved, it’s a civil matter.

I disagree.

A theft took place.

Someone's personal property was taken without their consent.

A third party was the custodian in the course of doing business.

Therefore, they are also liable.
