Sadly this engine was rebuilt but stored poorly and will need to be torn back down and really cleaned.
Did some checking today its standard bore no ridge I believe the standard pistons. Heads were gasket matched and some light porting work. Looks like new intake valves and new valve springs. I will know more about it as I tear it down for a good cleaning. had a damn rat nest in the lifter valley..
Well so far everything seems to be in decent shape on the bottom end of this 383. I pulled the rods and pistons out yesterday and the rod bearings look new and only showed some slight ware from me rotating the engine to get to the caps. I will pull the crank today and inspect that. Its a forged crank with provisions for a manual trans. Also pulled the cam and its a purple cam which there are only 2 purple cams with a single bolt. And the timing set was brand new and in perfect shape. So the guy I got this engine from was not lying when he said it was rebuilt. However the rat nest in the valley and the rust in that area tell me it sat with no intake for a while.
The 906 heads seem to be in very good shape but need to be cleaned up a little as well.
While doing some research... I found on the A12 registry that the numbers for some of those cars match the number on this block. I mean sequence wise. So Am I thinking wrong that this was a Lynch Rd Road Runner 383HP? Damn were all the lynch road cars 440 6 pack cars? I guess so.
293152 could have come from a Super Bee or Road Runner or any Belvedere R* or Coronet W* four speed non AC car. Scheduled production date was likely 610 or 611.
I guess this old engine has lost its car. So Im going to proceed on and build it. I have the block cleaned and looking really good. I also painted the 71 covers to use on it. Since I hate the edelbrock covers. Im going turquoise with the engine build. I will be putting this in the 66 Belvedere.
