Can I use the filler tube as a return inlet to the tank

This may not be the correct way of mating a return fuel line to the tank, but I saw where a "T" can be added between two sections of filler tube, thus giving you a 1/4" fitting to hook the return line to. I have a full tank of gas and a bad back and don't like the thought of having to modify the tank. I cannot find a sender for the '67 Satellite that has a return line fitting on it. '68 and up is all I found. The "t" at a filler tube sounds intriguing. Any comments?

Why not drill sender and add a 1/4" line? I guess could put one in filler tube but don't put it in the trunk. Also angle it so it flows toward tank.

Don't know why it wouldn't work. Not sure if you would then need a vented gas cap or not. I think the tank has a vent built in to it, at the front near the rear axle.

Yes you can.I have seen several over the years. Also like Fran said.Did one on a Duster that we installed fuel injection. Local parts store got us the fitting, drilled the sender and installed fitting hooked to a 1/4'' line.

I have to pull the tank to get to the sender. I should have mentioned that this is not for an EFI, it is a mechanical pump with 5-7 psi. I read, or saw a youtube where you should be concerned that the return flow goes well under the surface of the fuel in the tank so it does not create air bubbles. By running down the filler tube this should be eliminated and any fumes, or air, would be expelled by the vent tube. The vent tube would remain functional, this is an added "vent". I guess I can always cap it off if does not work and get some help with removing the tank and doing is right.

If you use a sending unit/fuel pick up tube for a six pack or Hemi car, it will have a return line built into it. But of course, you still have to lower the tank to get to it.

67's No return line senders available I believe.

Why do you have to drop/lower tank to remove sending unit ? Is it not stock ? I have replaced the sending unit in my '67 Belvedere a couple times without lowering tank. Just installed a new 1/2" pick-up a couple months ago.

You can try it but I don't think you'll like the results. I just helped out on a project that had that setup on it and we had to remove it due to excessive fumes in the vehicle. The gas was constantly flowing down the filler tube and evaporating.

Agree Andy never about fumes and vent is behind drier's side tire. That's probably why they recommend return near bottom of tank. Don't see why OP can't put a line in sender.

When I converted to EFI, I bought a 3/8" sender for my Charger.
Drilled a 5/16" hole and soldered in a piece of fuel line for my return so the original 5/16" steel line is my return.
Works fine.
