Year one just posted that they now have reproduction oval air filters for hemis and sixpacks, in orange and black versions. Which is correct for a later production date A12?
 
I say Orange. Not saying black is wrong, I just never saw one on an original car.
 
I threw away what i think might have been an original in the mid eighties, replaced it with a K&N. An orange fram was $35, lasted a few thousand miles, the K&N was $50. $35 was a bunch of money for a throwaway item.
Who knew?

I use the orange one. I believe that is similar to the factory original filter. I have seen Mopar Performance black filters too IIRC. Last time I got mine from Mancini I believe.

The round holes and the metal they are cut into are factors for correctness.
My main concern is FUNCTION and FIT.

And that is why I don't.
Filter material is too porous, in my opinion, and the idea of an oiled filter when the most miles at one time, on an annual basis, is Cruisin the Coast with windblown sand that the paper filter blocks and traps...
I think the oiled K&N would be a mess and I'd be concerned about the sand getting where it doesn't belong in the cleaning to reoil process.
I'm open to factual, statistical, and in-depth education about the K&N

I have used a K&N 14 round filter for a very long time. There has been zero problems with anything getting past the filter element. Zero problems cleaning or re-oiling the filter cotton element.

What you have to watch your for is the shrinking of the cotton element. What I have done is to let it dry overnight in my cool and dark basement. I have also reinstalled it and came back later to oil it.

D IMO, lewtot184 is dead balls on accurate! $165 for a filter?

And the insanity of MoPar Gold continues into the aftermarket part makers.....
