define easy lol. But yeah, you can use the same frame, just get the right mounts from Schmaucher. 64 B bodies have plenty of room. You will need a big block trans, big block shifter cables. oh and a bigger radiator

I am working on a 1968 Coronet, RT. Just dropped the engine in to find that I have interference between the oil pan and the steering tie bar. Do I need to replace the oil pan or can I adjust the height of the engine up or lower the bar somehow....any advise is welcomed. thanks

A big block will bolt in once you have the correct mounts. Almost everything else needs to change though so it ends up being a big job these days. 40 years ago it was a very easy swap since all the parts were available but these days you'll have to do some hunting and pecking to find everything.

Another option is to use a later model K frame and move the engine back to where the 2nd gen B body cars had it. That trick gives you more clearance for the fan and radiator but it requires a different transmission mount and can complicate your trans linkage. It might make headers easier to find and it might make it easier to run a deep oil pan. All depends on what you're trying to do.

You are putting a big block?? in a Coronet that had what in it before? What motor mounts do you have? meaning what did you get the engine out of? And what oil pan does it have? Pix of the problem may help. HTH, Lefty71

Thanks for the pointers, the engine is a 440, engine removed was a 440. Stock motor mounts. the oil pan is the deeper option, most likely the cause of the interference. I will try to get photos. I am slow to reply because I am focused on getting this project done.....takes a ton of time.

so its an aftermarket pan?

It must be. I purchased the overhauled engine that is period correct, its a 1970 440.

I almost wonder if you have a truck pan on it. the truck pan would cause this issue

I will post pics in the next few days...thank you all for your input. More to follow.

Hey you all, hope you are still watching this tread....I have some photos of the issue. Ive attempted to show the depth of the pan, it is shallower at the back and deepens as it moves forward. At about the 1/2 way point the steering bar rubs. I need to adjust this but not sure how. Do I need to replace the pan? thanks for your input.

I'm not sure what that pan is for, definitely an aftermarket one but yeah, I would swap it out. You'll need to find an oil pan like this one. Notice how yours has a tapered part that slopes down as it moves rearward, vs the flat style like the factory is?

I guess you could always clearance your existing pan by dimpling it around the steering link and I doubt itd cause an issue but you're best bet is the correct pan.

I would rather do it right the have to re-do it! I'm going to replace the pan. I worked on the car some today...man what a project. I have Doug's headers and the LH side of the engine compartment is very tight. I have clearance issues just about every where. I have to change the plug wires from a straight on to a 90 degree to clear the steering box. I always for get to take photos....but once I am done, I will post a few. thank you for the great advice.
