I have 69 roadrunner with 383 engine 4bbl. I want to restore my radiator but when I check the part number 2898041 it doesn’t match the numbers in the parts manual. Is this radiator for a different year.

Thanks

22" or 26" radiator. The correct 22" would be an 2949 053
Your right that’s what I found but it’s doesn’t match for 26in radiator. How do you measure the radiator left to right or top to bottom.

Isnt the core support only made for one or the other (22 or 26)?? Sounds like someone upgraded for a little better cooling at some point in your cars past.

Your right about that but the part number doesn’t match what’s in the parts manual for 26in.

There were two different supports. So if you are going for originality and going to spend the money to track down the correct number radiator, then you should probably make sure you have the correct support as well.

If you are looking for the correct tanks, we were at Tony's Mopar last Summer and he had a TON of original radiators. I'd also look on Ebay.

Since I have a 26 in there I was going to buy one with the right part number and add the date code from Glenn Ray. There license from Chrysler.

Yes, that's a good option as well. I just thought I'd mention it as an option. It all comes down to finances and your needs. Some owners insist on wanting the original radiator as apposed to a reproduction.

26" would be either 2949054 or 055. 055 IF it had A/C. The fender tag or Broadcast sheet will be coded N51 for Max cooling if the 26" support is correct.

I appreciate your advice.

I don’t have fender tag or broadcast sheet that’s why I’m staying with the same size radiator

Then an 054 would be correct without A/C. Not sure how easy they are to find as were used on A12's, Daytona's etc.

Everything said here so far is very good advice.
1. Without a "cooling option" or "towing package" (rare), a 383 non-A/C car would have a 22" radiator.
2. Obviously, 26" radiators cool better
3. The radiator core supports come with either a 22" wide hole or a 26" wide hole (and you can cut a 22" hole out to 26" size)
4. A 26" radiator behind a 22" holes isn't taking "full" advantage of the 26" radiator, but still cools better vs. the 22"
5. Many aluminum aftermarket radiators cool as well or better than factory ones & are much cheaper (but don't look stock & some need work to make them fit)

OK.....now think how good of a cooling system you need (stock or race motor? hot climate or cool climate?) Then the 3 factors to consider are cost, originality and cooling capacity. Then you decide

If it were mine, I'd probably grab the aluminum and run it, only if it can be done without any modification, and only if he needs help cooling with the current set-up. Then hunt for that 2949054 if that's the right one for the car and try to get one on the cheap at his leasure, if he has a really nice car.

Good luck on finding a 054, on this side of the pool they are rare and if found be ready to pull the wallet.
My '69 Coronet is running with a 26" core from a '67 C body, gave up on looking for the right radiator.
As they guys stated, if a 26" radiator was used from factory the radiator support has a bigger hole.
My car had an 22" originally and i can clearly see a PO cut a section out of the radiator support to make the 26" work.

Nice to have there in the States, i can imagen the costs for a $1200 radiator to be shipped to the Netherlands and add 21% VAT on top of value incl. shipping costs.... :nutkick:
