I mentioned in a couple of threads that I was in negotiations to buy a 4 post lift for my shop.

It was listed on craigslist and had 2 photos.

The ad text read-

"Forward 12,000 pound alignment lift with 2 sliding jacks, works great, recently serviced -$2450"

The photos clearly showed a Forward brand lift with turntables and trolley jacks inside a service bay.

I had been emailing back and forth with the seller discussing disassembly, clearances, etc.
Several times I mentioned that this was EXACTLY the lift I was looking for with EXACTLY the features, specifically the alignment turntables and jacks.

I even informed the seller that I had contacted Forward to get the weight of the unit and the jacks, and that I had downloaded the setup manual to see how I could partially disassemble it for loading and transport.

So today is the day, after spending the better part of yesterday borrowing a trailer and installing cribbing so as not to damage the fenders.

I drive an hour and a half, one way and someone other than the seller shows me a lift that is NOT the lift in the pictures. Totally different design and no brand name markings....and it was outside.
The worst part, there are no turntables and no jacks.

I asked if he was sure this was the lift that was for sale.

He said, "Oh, he must have just loaded generic pictures he found".

WTF?

He also must have stole the ad text from where he stole the pics because they matched.

What is wrong with people?

Did that guy think someone would show up and just buy it anyway?

...and at no time during our discussions of "exactly what I was looking for with turntables and jacks" and "I contacted Forward and got the assembly instructions"...did the *** bother to mention that it was not the lift in the pictures, and that it didn't have jacks.

Dick!

/end rant

Hope you didn't put down any money!! I drove 65 miles last weekend to look at a 96 Dakota Sport that was listed for 1000 bucks too much. It was on CL too but when I got there, the pics showed exactly what it was (he sent me several more pics to my phone) and ended up buying it for 1000 bucks less than advertised! Probably could have got it for a bit less even. So, there are some on CL that are not scammers....

I have bought and sold a fair amount on CL, but is is a cesspool of dumbasses. From the dicks who reach out to bitch that your price is too high to the other idiots who want to trade you a POS $300 boat for $9K vehicle, there is a huge amount of morons. Then there is the flat out scammers who are "moving to XX state and will pay full price but need to do so via paypal, etc". Yes, there are some decent people on CL, unfortunately you have to sort through 100 jackasses to find one.

I know "two wrongs don't make a right", but if you told the guy he was paying for gas or going to the ER, I would not find you guilty.

This is the world we live in now.

This is the exact reason I only buy and sell on the Bodies sites. I look at C L but that's it.

Really sorry that happened to you! Stories like this re-enforces why I don't
EVER look at C.L. I don't trust NOBODY! Thank you for another learning experience.
I'm gonna go take a blood pressure pill now!

Craigslist people are the Walmart of the internet.

its almost like we gotta get sellers to do a hostage pic with the daily newspaper to prove out the actual item...

I started printing out a copy of the posted ad and pics, and taking it with me. It wouldn't have really changed anything, other than maybe the guy would realize what an *** he is.

At least they didnt rip you off here on FBBO, like this Gold Member has done to me.
FedEx lost the part, he refuses to pay me back.
Now sez he is filing Insurance Claim with FedEx, 2 months into this.
Pay me back, then recoup the insurance claim for yourself, Asshat.

Has 5-6 ads on Facebook selling Cars and other Crap, but claims financial hardship for 2 months.
Never thought I'd get ripped off on FBBO, by a Gold Member, no less.
