What is my best option for adding air conditioning to a 70 Roadrunner 440 six pack air grabber car that didn't originally have A/C on it? The car also has power steering. What's the best aftermarket system? Can it be installed with the engine in the car? THANKS

I'll say that either CVF or SD concepts will do what you want. They both put the compressor off to the left, leaving the center by the intake open. CVF seems simpler to me, but use one of those with Vintage Air and you're good to go.

I bought the brackets from Billet Connection which mount the compressor under the alternator, but the owner designed the system around a Ford alternator.

When mounting under the alternator can you still use the standard fuel pump or do you have to switch to an electric pump??

Gee, I'm not sure. I would guess a electric would be necessary but, check BCs web site for sure.

I just had a Vintage Air System installed in my 70 RR (factory A/C car). Was not cheap but works great. You should probably look at what upgrade you will have to do with the cooling system (if any). I did not have the correct type of radiator in mine and need to upgrade to the right one, running pretty hot in hot weather in stop & go traffic (210)...also I need to upgrade to a 7 blade clutch fan and a shroud.
Good luck on your search

PS: There is another company called Classic Air that also has systems.

I installed a Classic Air "Perfect Fit" system in my Air Grabber 70 Road Runner with a "hidden" compressor under the alternator. Yes, that requires that you remove the mechanical fuel pump.

Below are a couple of links to my restoration thread in case it is of interest.

I have been very happy with my system. The only minor complaint is the belt system is stressed using only one belt to drive the A/C. You need to have good belts and they need to be tight. I feel it is a small price to pay to have A/C that is (mostly) hidden.

Hope this helps,

Hawk
