Been practicing with my new industrial sewing machine. Actually learning how to use it since I've never done any sewing before. My '64 Polara isn't really a true Super Stock recreation because it already has a modified dash among other things, but it is true to the overall theme so a slightly custom interior won't look too much out of place.

Every time I do a new build I try to learn how to do something I've never done before. This time its stitching the interior. Here's a sample of the design I'll be using on the seats. Sewing is a whole new world for me but... you never learn anything new unless you try. I'll be using slightly thicker thread for the real thing... just waiting for the larger needles (for the thicker thread) to arrive.

I taught Adult Ed Watercolors and a student told me how he had taken a number of classes through the years. One he took was Upholstery and he had never sewn before.
He said he had great success and now he does all of his own work.

Go for it. I wanted my 64 Belvedere to have similar to Super Stock interior. Just a tad fancier. Seats are actually Honda magnesium frames that we cut the foam and covers to fit. Door panels have padding under the stitching to add depth. My friends wife did the carpet to fit the floor pan. It's all cut and sewn.

Here's the first section of the back seat almost ready to install. Have to finish the French seams and do a little trimming. Learning to sew is not as easy as it seems. ;-)

nice work here's mine. I been thinking on doing door panels instead of the aluminum I have now.

First half of the back seat is done. On to the back portion. Not bad for an armature if I don't say so myself.

did you make your door panels. how thick is it. another question is that the stock wheel and horn kit thank you for any help/

I didn't make the door panels they were on the car when I bought it. That is the stock steering wheel and horn ring. Check out www.fpmmetals.com they do this type of work.

Was thinking you could use a translucent gold wrap or window tint to tone down the pattern?

Finished the back of the back seat yesterday. Unlike the bottom which took a month to do, this only took two weeks. On to the buckets... which I have patterns for thank God.

centerline that looks awesome you have some talent.

time for you to start taking orders so we all don't have to wait six months for lol.

Been working on the bucket seats and have one about 95% done. All that's left is to make a new hard cover for the back of the seat. Let me say this... making upholstery from scratch is NOT an easy job, especially if you have never touched a sewing machine before. The learning process makes the overall job a slow one... but I'm getting there. After the next bucket seat is done I'll start on the package tray and door panels. Saving the sun visors for last. What I've done so far isn't perfect, but I'm not building a "show car". I drive my cars and I much prefer doing as much as possible myself. So far with this build the ONLY thing I haven't done myself is the machine work on the block, crank and heads and I don't see the need to farm out anything else. Nothing against those who can't, don't have the time, or just would rather have someone else do the work. To each his own, I'm just a hands on kind of guy.

Mr. Centerline, I can only say it looks great to me and I would be proud to have that it in my 64 or any other car. To want to be hands on in everything you do is outstanding. Can't wait to see the interior in the car. Great work
