Well, as they say **** happens. My wife side swiped a tree leaving the fairgrounds at a local car show. Damage isn't too extensive, this is of the passenger side fender. My question though is should I claim this on my insurance? I've got State Farm and it's a classic policy. If I did what would that do to my premiums? I'm going to take the car to a local restoration shop to get an estimate tomorrow maybe that determines whether I claim or not. All I know is this sucks. Pics for tears...

First call should be to the divorce lawyer....

Kidding kidding

Or am I?

If you can buff out the paint, check out one of the paintless dent removal guys. I did that to my 72 GTX front fender. They did a great job and charged me $80. I gave the guy $100 because it came out so well. Just a thought.

Wife’s should never be allowed nearby the drivers seat in a Mopar. At least not closer than the passenger seat.

I would be very leery of filing a claim with State Farm regardless if the policy is for a collector car or a daily driver. They are some of the worse carriers to raise rates and premiums for these types of claims. They will consider it an "at fault" claim because no police report has been filed and the fact that the Misses had an, OOOPPPPSSSS!!! Better to just keep quiet and pony up to pay for it yourself. In the end no one will be the wiser and you get it done your way instead of relying on the State Farm Claims Adjuster which force their repair facilities on the insured as they deem suitable. Most times their shops are not at all very good. I know this because of 10 plus years in the Insurance Business. Good luck in your decision but I say this only to spell out how terrible direct line Insurance Company's are and State Farm is one of the worse...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag:

I would first find a real good shop with a real good metalman. And get a price and time frame for repairs. And go from there. I bet a good tin basher will clean that up nice. Ive done damage to mine and it happens to the most of us.

I would not turn it into the insurance company. They will raise the rate on all of your cars!

Well, don't have to worry about a divorce lawyer anymore!!! :D 'it' is gone already....if you want to call 32 years of marriage already lol! Dayam, what took her so dang long!? What took me so dang long to boot her!!?

I poked my 55 Dodge into the back of a week old Acura RDX chipped the paint around the drivers headlight on my 55. I stoved the rear bumper and rear hatch of the RDX into the spare tire pocket real good. All because of a asian that decided to stop in the middle of the intersection after running the stop sign. That ding dong created a huge mess for the RDX owner and my self.

In 76 I rear ended a Toyota low end 2dr sedan with a 67 Dart hart top. (he pulled out from a parking lot and I won the case in court after I got the ticket). It bent the whole back end down to where they couldn't open either of the doors. It dented my bumper and bent the front edge of the hood down just bit but the impact made the original radiator leak a bit. The cop asked where the car was that hit the Toy and the driver of the Toy and me both pointed at the Dart. Cop asked again and I laughed! That's it man......and then the cop smirked and shook his head. That gave me a lousy regard for ferin cars.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. Get your estimate first and then ask around to try and get some other good recommendations for a body shop. Go to som car cruises and shows and ask around. You should be able find some good body/paint people who work from a shop at their home or who do side work. I would avoid turning it into State Farm as much as possible. Did State Farm beat Hagerty in price? I am just curious because when I checked into State Farm 13 years ago, it was ridiculously expensive compared to Hagerty. Seems like back then you couldn’t get agreed value with State Farm, you had to get an appraisal, and we’re very r strict ice with driving the car. I would shop around for insurance with some of the classic car insurance companies.

There okay when you first snag a good one. But. Anything after a year is like a life sentence.

if no scratched paint and cracked paint see someone who is the very BEST PDR repairmen and see what he thinks he can do and how much it will cost

Wow.. tough crowd! Wife's never put a scratch on the SuperBird... she's driven it more than me (probably 75/25) and I underlined Plymouth on the garage door frame one day in '91....

How old is the paint. The dent is an easy fix, paint match is another matter. If you turn it in on your insurance remember you have the say on who and where it is repaired. Another thing is as you have State Farm is there a collision deductible. It will definitely be a collision claim and will count against you. I personally know a person that has State Farm and was hit in the rear 3 different times in 6 weeks. The accidents were not his fault, but two were from uninsured motorists and they still didn't go up. Your agent should stand up for you, if not get one that will.
