Hyrdgoon's - project angrybird

So another unexpected expense but want to do things right so here goes.

The guides in my Stealths are shot. I'm not putting over $600 into $900 heads I'd rather put the money into better heads so for those that are familiar with boosted applications what would you recommend for heads?

522 cubes F1R procharger not going over 15lbs boost.

Cam specs:
23-000-9. 13083B/3039B. 238/248 [email protected], .545/.543 lift (1.5 rocker ratio), 115LSA +4 degrees of advance.

The Stealths were 80CC at 10:1 I'm also looking to run at about 9:1 so taking that into consideration now too

That sucks about the guides. How many miles you have on the heads??

Hey Goon, don't know if your interested or not but I just saw these on FB...I have no knowledge of this person it just seemed like a good deal on some good heads. Indy 440-1 for $2100

Never mind that's cc will put you higher than you want boosted...

Thanks Mike

Saw those too. Same issue with the cc and not wanting to go Indy so I don't have to change my headers

I'd say I'm 99% sure I'm going to pick up the Trickflow 240's

That's not many.

Sure isn't! Obviously CME doesn't go through their heads for their crate motors.

In their defence this would have been covered by my crate motor warranty likely but since so much time has passed with almost 3 years the car has been off the road it would be hard to prove.

This post died, what happened????
Work has begun on his motor, I'll try to send him updates so he can post them but by next weekend I hope to have the motor mostly wrapped up. As of now it got new JE pistons in order to lower the compression ratio for boost, the SD girdle has been installed and line bored, oil pickup enlarged to 1/2" and the crank installed. The pistons were ordered slightly bigger so the bores could be cleaned up as well so he'll be starting out with a nice fresh and true bore.

Awesome, thanks for the update! Did you do the machine work? I’m looking for someone to do my 440 that “knows” Mopar. A local guy here does only Mopar but won’t get back to me and the “ anything but Mopar ” guy won’t use a deck plate when doing my cyl’s.

Probably because he doesn't have a plate for it?
Although I have equipment that could do the work it's hard to justify the time it would take to set it all up for the price it cost to have it done, that and I don't build enough motors to warrant the investment. I use Watson and Ruppel here in Ohio for my machine work.

Another updated pic from Dev with the rotating assembly together.

"This post died" along with my bank account lol

Hope to see this thing start coming back together soon. Dev is doing a killer job on the engine and making sure it will take what we throw at it

Geez Devin, I didnt realize you were getting into building motors on the side. I shouldn't have sent money off to IMM Engines to get things started on my next one :poke:. By the way, Brian is dead set on using Trick Flow 240's on my motor. He says they are by far the best bang for the buck.

Is that BCR? I think SD is the name of their "other" or newer company?
Anyway, my local engine builder who did the 421 4 bolt built Pontiac Tripower engine for my wife's GTO said that there was a unique cap and girdle system he did for one of his many big block Mopar clients and he REALLY liked the unique design and application.
I read their story about it and spoke to them and I'm sold.
Tell me what YOU like about it please!

I'm not I just enjoy building motors but won't typically do it because most people won't spend the money to do it right.

Goon had the machine shop order the 240's and go through them, they were very impressed with the quality and yes they sure are purdy. The only thing they were iffy on was the guide clearances, they loosened them up a touch but that's it.

Goon ordered it but I thought he told me it was SD Concepts? Looking at it it looks like it does a better job of tying everything together than most and has a beefy looking girdle as well. My complaint would be that it doesn't come with the 440 main sizing, they sell it in the 383 size so it can be used on any of them, that means instead of a simple line hone it requires line boring then honing which adds cost. The shop had fun machining it because of the dissimilar metals too, cutting half cast iron and half aluminum makes your cut favor the softer of the 2 but it came out really well.

SD Concepts purchased BCR to be able to provide this girdle system I believe. This was just a better system than everything else on the market and had plenty of positive reviews

Girdle done, easy peezy. Looks and fits very nice although I can see a few holes that were opened up by the machine shop.. no worries all RTV has been cleaned up. Heads installed and torqued using Cometic gaskets but the rocker arm assembly needs some mods before I move forward. All outside sets need .050" milled off of the spacers before they will even fit between the rocker stands.

Like I said, my local engine builder made a point to espouse the cap and girdle system, how its unique design really impressed him.
