Yesterday was the day, my wife dented the car :(

I'm still waiting to see what Hagerty does to my premium after my claim...
It wasn't a lot of money paid out (surprisingly low, actually), but I don't know if that factors
into it?
I figured if as long as the car is in there, I'd fork out some of my own loot and get some
non-accident issues taken care of and negotiated that on the side, figuring it would be less
if done at the same time as the insurance work.

I can say now that the folks I dealt with at Hagerty (including the adjuster that came out to
the house) were all very pleasant and sympathetic to my cause and things went smoothly.

Thanks for the replies, I'll stay away from claiming it on insurance. I'd rather pay once and be done with it instead of it increasing my premiums for who knows how long. The paint is cracked and scratched pretty good so it'll be more than popping out a dent. As for the divorce, my wife is way too good of a woman for me to let one mistake get in between 11 years, great cooking, two awesome kids, and the bonus that she keeps up on her body in the gym with me. I have no doubts in my mind there isn't a better woman out there, I'm 35 have you seen what most women do now with there time. They stare at their phones and post half naked pics on Instagram to get attention from strange dudes. No thanks Jeff, I would never stand idly by while my woman did that.

She was driving the car because she's too afraid to drive my truck with the camper trailer attached, not because I was drinking. Though this almost drove me to a few drinks to get over it. Funny thing is, is I've always been really protective of the car. Sometimes it would lead to fights with her because she felt like I couldn't trust her with the car so I stopped being so protective and let her take it when she wanted, I don't think I have to worry about her wanting to take it ever again.

You have a great gal. My wife wouldn't drive any of my cars even on a bet. If it doesn't have A/C and seatbelts with shoulder belts, she won't even ride in one. I talked her into going to a show in Panama City in a car with A/C and lap belts one time because she likes the beach so much and anytime I got over 50 mph she was shouting slow down. Can you imagine driving 120 miles on lonesome back roads and not being able to pounce on that Gen III Hemi in my 66 Satellite even once.

Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to pay our respects.. no seriously that has got to feel like a kick in the nuts.
Sounds like the good outweighs the bad as far as wifeys go. She probably feels just as bad as you do or even more if that's possible. My wife went for a little trip to the store in my 68 Charger RT... long story short, she absolutely will not drive the car again.. scared the crap out of her. She thought she would see what would happen when she jumped down on the loud petal, pretty sure everyone knows how a 440 reacts when it's kicked in the ***, the car just about got away from her but to her credit she kept the dirty side down and the fenders on the car. Pretty sure she went 10-200.. she still gets a kick out of it when the conversation comes up.

Haha, that's awesome. Mine is just a 383 so it doesn't get away from you too bad with the 3.55 and suregrip in the back. She likes to drive it but rarely does, hopefully this doesn't scare her away too bad. At least now she'll pay attention more to her surroundings.

I took the car in for an estimate and it came in at $2,950.31, he's also going to fix a few minor things that have been bugging me that happen to be in the same area. The shop I'm taking it to is a full up custom/classics only type shop. They actually had a '69 Charger and '69 Roadrunner in there already and it was very clean and professional. When I restored my car lets just say the shop I had it at was before I knew much about Utah and the car culture so I had no connections or info on anyone. This shop is a complete 180 from that one so I'm resting easy that I won't go through the same crap I did before.

After talking to my insurance agent, I'm going to claim it. I just don't have $3K sitting around to burn and as he said, this is why you pay for insurance so don't be scared to use it. Based on my history, which there is none, and the fact that it's a small claim he doesn't see it affecting my rates at all. I'll keep you guys updated...

Oh and here's a picture of us waiting to get on Main street for a parade they hold during the Cache Valley Cruise In.

I poked my 55 Dodge into the back of a week old Acura RDX chipped the paint around the drivers headlight on my 55. I stoved the rear bumper and rear hatch of the RDX into the spare tire pocket real good. All because of a asian that decided to stop in the middle of the intersection after running the stop sign. That ding dong created a huge mess for the RDX owner and my self.
Did I miss something?
You rear ended a guy because he stopped after running a stop sign?
You had to have run the stop sign, too!

that sucks, for the car & you

hopefully it's an easy fix

she owes you now :poke:

nice family too

Just kidding about the wifey bro. You have a keeper so keepher.... lol. I would say claim it as well. I’m an insurance professional and doubt very seriously if this impacts your rates. Good luck at the shop!

No We were in a turning lane. Light was a green flashing arrow , a side road ran parallel off to our left with a stop sign . The asian went through the stop sign and stopped in the middle of the road way in our path of right away to turn left on the flashing geen arrow . Regardless it was my fault as per the insurance.

**** happens in life and 30 years from now you'll be laughing with your children, there spouse's and G-kids about the time mommy dented the RR.
Im sure some were teasing you but all I can say in the gist of life this little bump in the road means nothing..... Good luck and God Bless

Wow.. tough crowd! ....

you think????
hey you can always get the flip side that my Brother did

LOL.. but yah if you're gonna quote me quote the whole thing! My wife has NEVER put a scratch on a car be it the Superbird, or her '64 Vette that I sold on her last Spring. I can't say the same thing. I often wonder where these guys found their women... but I, like the OP, found a keeper! Currently letting me look at a '65 color me gone clone... :)

Nice family pic !!! I see from your signature that you're in the ANG in KC-135's. My niece's husband flew them in the NJ ANG for 20 years, retired as the wing commander. You guys have balls doing that !!! It's like gassing up your ride on the highway!!!!! Thanks for your service. And yeah, she's a keeper !!

Me: my wife wrecked my car today
Friend: oh no....did she get hurt?
Me: not yet, she locked herself in the bathroom.

The way I look at these things is hey it's just a car! As long as wife and kids are ok who cares looks to be a simple and easy fix and your getting a few other issues fixed too !

It all boils down to this. Who's idea was it for your wife to drive ?

Thanks Steve, I appreciate the comment. Actually we already laughed about it yesterday because of how my daughter reacted (she was in the passenger seat when it happened). She said it was like that scene in Tommy Boy when Tommy is backing up the GTX and forgets to shut the door.

NJRR, thanks for your comment. Yep, I've got another year and a half before I can retire. I spent almost 20 years waiting for this moment and never thought it would get here, now that it's that close I can't believe where the time went and now I don't think I'll get out at 20. I love the comradery and quite honestly the ANG gig is the best kept secret going, best thing I ever did was move from active duty to the Guard. Don't get my retirement until 60 but I still get one and in the mean time I get super cheap insurance and a nice little side job once a month.

Looks like the paint is cracked.

Good eye, it is cracked right where the dent starts at the top. They will be removing the entire fender to do the body work, I'm no body guy but he said something about having to shrink the metal so the dent doesn't try to come back or something like that. They also mix their own paint and they are pretty confident they will have no issues matching the paint. Either way the shop has a really good reputation around Utah so I know I'm in good hands.

Update: I took a bunch of pictures and sent them into insurance, they estimate the claim at $1005 just barely a third of what the body shop estimates it's going to take to fix. The owner of the body shop said he'll talk to the adjuster and explain the difference in cost. This is my first time dealing with anything like this, either classic or my daily, but he told me he expects the insurance adjuster to come in super low and that insurance normally bids it as if it was a run of the mill vehicle. Hopefully that's not all they approve for the claim. On the positive side the owner of the body shop is fitting me in between jobs so I get to take my car in this afternoon to start work, thinks it'll be done sometime early next week.

Yes, its always best to let the body shop negotiate with the insurance company. You're responsible for only your deductible and the extras you setup with the shop.
