Backyard find 1970 Charger DIY Build

when I did my one piece floor it took 2 of us
one standing and pushing down on the floor to seat it in properly and the other to weld it home.
nice progress.
Thanks flypaper, and thanks for all your advice and the photos of your cars you sent me

Undercoating completed. Really happy with how it came out. All that's left is install the rear diff/suspension (plus new bilsteins from PST), do the 4-wheel disc conversion, fuel tank, exhaust, rear lights, bumper, and wheels/tires and we're good to go !

If I only had a weekend with enough time.....

You are doing great work, with great progress. Keep your head up. We all wish we had more time to work on the fun cars, but life does happen. Keep it up!

Thanks ! I wish I could devote more time to this car but as all of you guys know well, life isn't like that. Bit by bit and piece by piece. Slow but steady!

Got the rear diff in, those calvert u-bolts sure look good on there. Mounted up the disc's and brackets and I noticed that the brake pads hang off the edge of the rotor by a considerable amount. Never seen that before. Going to email the manufacturer (theright stuff --- I know say what you will but it was all that was in the budget) and see what they say. Got a new 6-qt oil pan and pick up tube as well. Todays plan:

Fuel tank
Fuel line
Tail lights and bumper
Beer

Todays new plan:

Drink beer

It started raining, I was able to get the fuel tank, filler hose, and new sender unit installed. Took the studs off of the drivers side of the rear diff because they're reverse thread. Ordered some new wheel studs from Dr Diff.

New wheel studs for the driver's side are in. Got the lights, trim, bumper back in. New Bilstein shocks came in ! Installed the rear shocks. Figured out I need a new U-joint. Ordered the 7260-7290 Conversion U joint. Ordered a tail shaft seal for the 727 (Driveshaft is out, might as well). Put a fuel filter inline before the fuel pump on the block.

Tomorrow's plans are replacing the oil pan, running brake lines, running some vents for the fuel tank, and drinking some beer.

Really want to get this thing back on all 4 wheels by the end of the week.

Question: What's the best way to run a fuel tank vent from a CA car? I got rid of that weird vent that went through the trunk on the passenger side. My plan was to cap off the two smaller lines, run the two 1/2" lines to a barbed tee then to a vent attached up as high as i can above the rear axle. Was just going to run a axle breather unless anyone else has a better idea?

A lot of progress today !
- The right stuff sent me the wrong brake lines for the rear, they're sending me the right ones.
- Figured out I need a new idler arm, ordered.
- Installed new oil pan. Center link rubs slightly I think it's due to the re-usable gasket. I coaxed it into playing nice.
- Threw the wheels on there just to have some light at the end of the tunnel.

Some more progress. Found a PVC fitting that worked cherry for driving the output shaft seal in... this May rain caused my rotors and calipers to rust... good thing I noticed it now I was able to fix it before it got too bad. Got some POR15 Caliper paint to fix the issue.

Brakes are INSTALLED!!!!! I couldn't be more pumped. Did the old 1 man method of bleeding them. Literally the only thing I have left to do is install some parts that are supposed to arrive over the weekend:
-Pinion Seal
-Yukon axle yoke sleeve
-Pinion nut and washer

And she'll be back on the road.
Here's a clip of my ghetto exhaust system - new exhaust is a must the old stuff is garbage. Any recommendations?

She's on the road ! Might have been just a 1/2 mile but still... Stoked. I put the car up on jackstands yesterday just to check how she held up. To do:

- Make sure everything is torqued properly still
- Bleed brakes one more time
- Redo oil pan gasket (rear is leaking)
- Redo trans pan gasket (everything is leaking)
- Ghetto poor man's alignment with some angle iron and some tape measures
- See if I can't get the pinion nut torqued properly.
- Fix control arm issue - see if I need to grind more off the arm, it was hitting the rim.

Got the trans pan all sealed up good now, waiting on the lower rear main seal which should be here monday for the oil pan. Fixed the control arm/wheel issue, Might see if I can gingerly take the rear output shaft seal from the transmission and put some gasket maker in there. Noticed it had a couple drips of ATF at the bottom. Today I'm going to tackle the pinion nut issue hopefully.

Amazing and inspiring! If you plan to paint eventually (and why would you? DRIVE IT!!) I would go with the original color - that light blue with the black vinyl top would look great. Enjoy the summer driving!

Thanks ! Not sure what color it's going to be, I was thinking hemi orange, sublime green, or painting it brown with the cheesy gold stripe again. Really on the fence but oh yeah she's going to be driven. Next stop is exhaust and new ignition, doing research on converting to a MSD digital. In the mean time... here are some pics
