i am asking for anyone that has a picture or what the brake setup should look like on the rear of a 67 Coronet to please share. I posted pictures of my rear hubs as I was removing the axels for another repair when several members posted that my brake set up did not look correct. There was an extra spring across the bottom that seemed not to belong (see photo). So I removed the spring and now my brakes have adjusted our so far I the drum wouldn’t turn. Another piece of the puzzle is the parking brake cable is broken. Someone mentioned that the parking brake strut seemed to be installed wrong. The first picture is of the drivers side ( the one that is locking up) the second one is of the passenger side

Remove the spring I highlighted in yellow and obviously put the upper shoe back into place. You may also have a pressure build up in the line due to some blockage. Crack open the bleeder screw and see if the cylinder compresses more.

I think even the lower picture in my post is wrong, I think you get a white spring and a brown spring on each wheel on top. Not 2 browns or 2 whites.. One brown one white per side.

BeepBeepRR's picture is of a later year set up, which has a better self adjuster. The shop manual picture is for a 67. You could use the later set up if you wanted to.

This is a perfect example why amateurs should not work on brake systems! Death will come quickly enough.

So whoever did these brakes put two brown springs on the drivers side shoes and two white springs on the passenger side. The white springs were shorter and stronger and were SOB’s to get off. I’m having a hard time finding a hardware set for 11x2.5 shoes. I’m wondering if the white spring is for the secondary shoe for each side and the brown spring is for the primary shoe on each side?
