The radiator had a bad leak. No coolant in the car when I got it. Filled with tap water and found the leak, then fixed it. I suspect someone put some stop leak in at some time in the past. The water has been black, stayed black, even after several radiator drains and refills. I finally got the water to run clear.

Well done, sir. We real hillbillies over here up on the ridge approve and hereby bestow you with

Nasty. Hopefully no issues with radiator, water pump, heater core, etc.

Well, the radiator is not correct for the car. Should have a 28" with in/out on the right, it is a 26" with inlet on the left. Heat is not hooked up yet. Going to rebuild the HVAC box when I do the interior. Water pump is new.

Today I am going to pull the coolant drain plugs on the block, get out the rest of the tap water and fill it with distilled water. Drive it and make sure it has no leaks. When all is good drain the radiator and fill with a gallon of straight coolant, bottle of Water Wetter or the like. And it should be good.

That's how i have been doing flushes for decades on personal and customer cars. Never thought of myself as a hillbilly, maybe a hayseed though.
