i see a couple of brackets cars at the local track sporting beam trippers. Now you have to race that and not the front tires.

What do you guys and gals think? Love em or hate em?

I don’t get it. How does it not trip the starting line beam but some how it trips the finish line beam?

What’s the purpose?

Finish line beams are higher than starting line

Love em or loathe em? Kinda depends on the car you drive. In my cortina, which has a tiny front overhang, if im door handle-to door handle with a 2002 firebird for example, I'm still four feet behind.
As a racer now, you had better look your opponent over in the staging lanes, to see where you have to be to be in front.

Correct in a heads up race but in a bracket race the Firebird has to dial with his pecker. Now you dial with your tires and your at his door, either he's breaking out, you missed your dial or you got treed if Im thinking this right.

Agreed. I was just trying to show that it is more difficult to "drive the finish line" with a short overhang or taller car. Dragsters have been using "peckers" disguised as front wings with side plates for decades.

In my example, if i want to be first to the finish line with my tire, my door has to be even, or ahead, of his hood. If i dont KNOW that before the run, and i pedal when i get even, it is a guaranteed loss.

there called beam breakers, ive made one for my 71 dart I had, seen pic, will be building them for my other cars I have.also see the ones on the street outlaw cars,i was trying to get more et cheap,or mph,i know a famous bracket racer that uses a remote control one that comes up and down,in bracket racing your trying to judge him by his fender or wheel but hes using a beam breaker, they use them a lot in pro mod, very legal

Ii know they are legal and an advantage in heads up racing but a bracket car has to dial with the pecker so the only advantage in a bracket race the other car not knowing.

Now a remote controlled one seems pretty shady in my opinion.

Is there a limit as to how far they can stick out?. Is it the leading edge of the car itself ?.Just hitting a switch to make the pecker stick out isn't fair. I gotta pay $12 a pill.

I thought it was the centerline of the front axle to the most forward part of the car.

I think it is a max of 42" from the centerline of the front spindles

I don't like them

IMO it's just another stupid excuse for losing a race

I see why they are legal too
(certain newer cars with more front end overhang)

I still don't care, I don't like it at all, never will either
ol' school baby
front most part of your car should be the trip point, period
chose wisely

you chose what body style to use
you need to live with the results of your decisions too

Lets be honest. How many can drive the stripe close enough to make a difference anyway?
