After installing engine & rebuilt 727 trans I notice there was no spring attached to the gearshift control lever, to keep the lever closed when no throttle. The lever normal resting position was not at full closed. I am using a Lokar throttle and kickdown setup. We installed a spring from the gearshift lever toward the carb to keep it closed.

Now the gas pedal is pretty hard to push. Probably too heavy of a spring? What spring is suppose to be used? I see in past posts that some pics have the spring and some do not.

Not sure what you mean by 'gearshift control lever'? The only springs on the Lokar setup connect from the throttle lever of the carb to the Lokar mounting bracket. Two springs for safety. The kickdown cable itself, at least on mine, is what adds a tad extra stifness to go-pedal movement but it's not much. With the kickdown disconnected the pedal is way too easy to push (not driving it around without the kickdown anyway).

Ya sorry I called it the wrong name. I was referring to 'kickdown lever' on the trans. I read the Hot Rod article "The LowDown On Stock Torqueflite Kick-Down Linkage" and found my answer. No spring on the kickdown lever.

That Hot Rod article should be banned from the web.

The absence of a spring on the KD lever is one of many faults with the Lokar.

I have the same exact setup as post #2. Mine also has a spring at the lever, see pic. There was one there when I got the car, but it was rusted so I went to hardware store and got an assortment of springs. The one on there now seems to work perfect. I feel no pedal issues and the trans downshifts fine. I would say it was a "lightweight" spring... just enough to hold the lever back.
