Calling all shade tree engineers (move engine 1/2" to driver sidde)

My 65 is a pain in the *** to remove the valve covers. The tin ones aren't as bad as the aluminum ones. I haven't done the off set master(Yet) but have done the passenger side shock tower mod.I unbolt the master and can move it enough to clear.Even with the shock tower mod I still have to unbolt the motor mount and raise the engine to get it to clear.I don't have the best photo of the shock tower. This is what I have, hope it helps.Naw doesn't show squat.
I need to take a photo of them, both sides so we can all see the difference.

This photo is of a 64 Savoy we did a few years back.

Here you can see the height difference in the shock towers. The passenger side has the mod done.Look at the shock washers and nuts.

I was speaking about the heads strictly.
Info from big block dart forum says early eighties for prostock, comp eliminator, experiments with low deck hemis. Iron 426 blocks drying up, added bosses to low deck block for top row of hemi head bolts.
From what i read, no success in pro stock, but apparently Dave Koffel held A/ dragster record for a few years with one.
Possibly one of the first fabbed tunnel rams. If you can fab a tunnel ram, the valley cover will be no sweat.

Thanks guys for the replies. May be as simple as adjusting all the way up on the driver side mount (up in the slot). I will post pictures when I can, car is in storage unit.
Engine is a 440 with Stage V hemi heads. 440 block I believe is 1/2" wider and that makes a difference.
JP, am aquainted with both, if someone in the past has changed the K, a tall valve cover on a wedge motor will require a small clearance dent near the little rubber door on the fire wall, keep it small!!. on a hemi I didn't have any problems with the pass side other than it was tight and took some wiggling to get the cover off. I had stock shock towers on a 64 belvedere, the K for the hemi was out of a 66 Sattie and the K for the wedge was out of a67 GTX , both set the engine back couple of inches. I did not have to clearance the firewall until I put the victor heads on with some of those tall valve covers. but I would think that you are dealing with the same things that I have been dealing with for over forty years, did mine in 1976!! hope this sheds some light on some things. Dave.
All is not lost! LOL! Car has been running for years and was done during a period when you couldn't just buy a Mopar perfoemance hemi off the shelf and Hemi blocks were in short supply. Sort of the poor mans Hemi at full price! LOL.

Worst case scenario is the just loosen up mounts and trans mount and jack up a bit.

Keep thinking! Much appreciated.

Not sure if this will help. INDY makes a pair of HEMI covers that have extra shock tower clearance cast into them. Hard to tell in the pictures, but this all I have of them on my HEMI and in the car.

Darter,

Thank you for the reply to my post. Much appreciated. Do you mind if I ask what your process is for raising the engine to get valve covers on and off? I see you lift from underneath? And do you loosen trans cross member as well? Just seems like the least intrusive of the fixes and does the job. Congrats! Really not a big deal if your into wrenching on your own stuff.

Thanks again and in advance,

Jeff
