Push button transmission question

I have a '64 Belvedere with a 361 and BB push button 727. I am converting to a Gen 3 Hemi so I picked up a '65 SB push button 727. I have been told I should take the valve body out of my '64 trans and put in the '65. I have also been told don't do that, just take the rooster comb out of the 64 and put in the 65. I am so confused! The small block trans has been completely rebuilt and upgraded to 67+ internals to allow for using a normal torque converter. I need some advice!

65s didn't have push buttons. They had a cable shift, with one cable, I think. The 64 trans uses two cables, One is for the buttons, and one is for the park lever. How many cables does your transmission have?

65 727 is a unique one year that can run PB or linkage.
 
The major difference between the two is that the '65 trans uses a slip yoke (for the driveshaft) and the '64 trans uses a "Detroit" joint (as my dad used to call 'em) Just swap in the '64 shift cable into the '65 trans.
 
As I understand, as I have a '63 PB and a '65 trans sitting on my shelf, this (65) was a transfer year between cable and linkage shift out in '66. '65 was still cable and the diff as 'theman440' describes was the design difference. My memory is foggy since researching...but thought this also required a shorter driveshaft? Might be all dumb on this as I'd have to check my notes buried somewhere when I was pondering on installing the '65 tranny some years back.
 
I figured I will have to get a custom driveshaft since going from the ball and trunion style to a slip yoke.

Just call Cope racing and ask for help. Will save you time and a lot of confusion.

On the '65 cars there was a box on the steering column where the cable hooked up to the column shift lever linkage. Not sure about driveshaft length but you will have to re-tube the '64 shaft because it will be too short when you eliminate the Detroit joint.
 
You will have to change the 2 cables and the rooster
comb and of course driveshaft.. call cope or a and a transmission
 
I'm using a '65 cable shift, slip yoke BB 727 in my '63 330 build. I was told by a Reliable Source, my PB cables will fit right in. Welcome ALL comments...

Recently swapped the 65 "pushbutton" out of my 65 Coronet 500. The console shift had 2 cables, I believe one for park and one for the rest of the shifting. Switched to a 70 trans now.
