My buddy changed out the diff in is 70 Cuda and found this sitting in the bottom of the housing. 489 case. Car has over 200K miles on it. Was just sitting there. I have no idea what it is and the fact that it didn't get munched in the gears is beyond me.
Any ideas? @Cranky ?

Side profile shot? It looks like a phillips screw head but I couldn't think of any reason why it would be thee..... Any chance it's part of a clutch style S/G thrust pin? (The reason I asked about the side profile)

I don't have a side shot. I can see if he still has it. Was an open carrier 3.23 489 case. Probably 1/16" thick

I'm not a diff expert so I have not idea if it is a part the diff.
If it was sabotage then it failed.

It sure looks like a piece of the center thrust pin from a Power Lock. If it is, the other side should show it broke off....and it will be 1/8" thick and 5/8" diameter but the center would have a broke piece of a roll pin or just hole. The center of that looks like it has a Phillips screw driver slot and can't think what it might be if it's from an open diff....

5/8" diameter.....sometimes I wonder. I even proof read it lol
