Trying to put a label on this type of buyer er; lookers, tire kickers.

I have these guys pegged in a few minutes when they arrive.
There here to look at $20 K car they think they can get for 5.

Get out of their vehicle and have in hand a giant 4 D cell flash light and a note pad.

Ya just want to tell them to hit the road, but you are a nice guy and play along.

After they inspect the car for 20 minutes they say ..........Whats your best price?

Duh!.............. it's $20 K.

O! Well I'll have to sleep on it and I'll get back to you.................LOL

Either . . .
option A - they're too busy looking for a great "deal" and are trying to "make" one happen
option B - they're too lazy to work hard for their stuff and look for an un-suspecting seller so they can flip it and make money

Either way - I agree with you . . . wast of time.

A lot of these guys are flippers. Best thing to do when selling is be clear that the price is not negotiable and save yourself the time.

Tire kickers - No intent on buying, just window shopping at your expense.
Low ballers - Try to get a $20K car for $10K.
Dreamers - Have the money, want to buy, wife/significant other says no.
Flipper - Low baller that has a buyer lined up for $20K
Bargain hunter - Hoping to low ball based on every flaw they can find.

I always put a disclaimer in the beginning of my car ads that asks these buyers to look elsewhere.

yep I try to talk to them before they come. I say I dont want to waste their time so please dont waste mine. Everyone is now trying to flip cars.

Yeah, what a joke. Had a guy that was as big as a house come and look at a 63 Valiant I had for sale. He was adamant that he must drive the car. Not wanting to be rude or crude all I could think of was "Well if you think you can" He squeezed his *** in it and we went for a ride.He barely could turn the steering wheel. I asked him to pull over and I would drive back.He left in a huff.
The best part is the following year I was selling a 79 Cordoba. He showed up again and brow beat me about the car should have a hood pad. I was like "What the F^%K ??" Listen you ain't gonna buy it anyway so just leave.Later I found out at a local show he does that with every Mopar he sees for sale. Takes all kinds..

Before I did a complete resto on my '63 Plymouth vert it was pretty nice, nice enough to have me putting off the big investment to get it just the way I wanted for years. CA car, supreme body, engine ran great, and I had already put some significant money and cash in it...all new interior, new top, mechanicals, etc. I put it up for sale at a car corral for $12.5 then went touring the swap meet and show. I had been pondering another car to buy, much as I liked my Plymouth. Come back and there's a note on my car "I'll give ya $5k" with his cell # to call him. Tossed his note and then later he calls me all miffed on why I didn't return his call. I said you might a got a clue with your price. He repeats his same offer and I said look, I got $15k in it already tossing a more than fair price and ya really want to waste my time continuing this conversation? Ok, sure, reckon it's smart to lowball; everyone wants a deal but when they wanna **** ya without at least a kiss first, bye.

A good friend called and asked if he could bring a guy down that needed some parts. I told him yes. They show up, and the guy asks if I had a 11X3 LH lug brake drum. I show him one, and he screws around for 5 minutes wiping it off taking pictures and then says it is a 69 date code and that he needs a 70 date code. At this I asked what he was building. He describes a 70 Challenger that the only thing that matches is the block. Then he asks about a 727 transmission. I show him 2 one needs built, the other is fresh with a new converter. He does the same thing with the pan rail numbers. Then tells me that the one that needs rebuilt is a 70 but the last 3 numbers are not the same as what he is looking for. This goes on for 3 and a half hours at which time I tell him I have supper waiting and he needs to leave. I told my friend later we built your car and you have won show after show. Don't pull the wheels off and check the date codes on the calipers, rotors, or drums and expect them to be date code correct, because we used the best we had or new. Total waste of my time and my friend even got upset with him.

they watch to much TV I tell them right off Im firm if make me and offer I just go up and tell them to leave I wont do the waltz with them

Hell I had a guy look over an $1800.00 work van like it was a 100k show car. Asked me if it was original paint and if it used any oil. I said dude it has 380 thousand miles and I want 1800 bucks if you dont take it the carpet installer will. I understand 1800 is like 18000 to some people but come on.

Sounds like a tire-kicking joy-rider. Gets his kicks out of wasting other peoples time, and getting a free ride in their cars. :mob:

you get all kinds when you sell something DAMHIK
that's probably why I only sell stuff
when I'm in the mindset to deal with the bullshit
which lately isn't very often.
I have a bunch of crap to unload from parts to beaters and
I'm in no hurry , I wonder why
what is even worse is
I have found buying stuff almost as hard at times..

I refer to them as ham smokers & picture collectors but they are no worse than a seller trying to get 20k for his 5k pile of crap or I want to sell but I'm to lazy or stupid to put a price on it so make a offer then get offended when you do.
I'm at the point where I put it on fleabay which is almost as bad as craigslist with all the stupid questions or I'll just throw it in the scrap pile which I find to be a lot easier to do anymore.

I agree, nothing worse than a lookers or tire kickers, but, some people are looking to sell a **** sandwich as ham and cheese. When I look to buy I have no time for either. I've told people that are selling something, are you selling or just showing it off. At the end of the day they all live among us.

Then you have the guy who says he is looking for a car, advertises it on a web board and when you reply to his ad, gives you a reply like this without looking at the car you are offering for sale in person,

"that car needs $20K worth of work to be a $15K car."

Saw a good sign from one of the vendors at Carlisle one year. If you don't like the price, send your wife back and I will dicker.

People like drama and try to push your buttons. Rather than allowing them to "**** up my chi" I just say, "OK, thanks for pointing that out" or just "really" and disconnect. If you have to get in an argument with them and they offer you 10k for a 20k car, just respond "I will take 22k". When they fuss, tell them they didn't like the original price so this is your new one.

When we bought Cora, he said it wasn't for sale. My wife asked how much, he laughed and gave a price and said he wouldn't take a penny less. She's in my garage!! I love my car and he realizes now when you call out a price, that's it. I talk to him every couple of weeks, his wife still can't believe he sold it.

Had a guy asking if I would sell my car. My response was 'everything's for sale, just a matter of the right price'. We grinned at each other and that was that. About a week later my buddy and I were at another car show and was asked by a sorta pushy type if he'd sell his car. He said about the same thing I did and the guy get's a little pushy asking well what do you want for it? My bud says what'll ya offer me for it? The guy then says more impatiently well you tell me what you'd take for it. I started to chuckle hearing this exchange since my bud wasn't out selling his car anyway! I'd figure guys that have an attraction to a certain vehicle, if they're friggin serious about buying, might a done some homework as to pricing ranges on it and able to throw out a price they might find as a bargain for them if they want to engage in serious conversation? Ya know, for example, if the vehicle has a known range of say $20 to $25k, might toss out $17 or 18k and see if the owner takes the bite...if so, a deal then. Reckon the buyer has a price in mind and that's their make or break so friggin throw out what ya'd pay and let it be a yay or a nay or don't waste the owner's time striking up a conversation about it! Funny deal, my 1st car was a '67 GTO and was looking at a car dealership at one I was close to buying for $1,450...ironically I was parked at a Mac's next to a guy having one I was drooling over, nicer than the one I was looking at. I asked him if he thought that was a fair price and he says I'll sell ya mine for $1000! Go figure...I bought his!
