i have a 1968 Sport Satellite.

I have a manual steering box from a 1963-1965 valiant.

Will the manual a body box fit the b body?

Do the pitman arms interchange?

Thank you. Eric.

Boxes will physically interchange A B E bodies.
The a-body pitman arm is different.

/6 boxes have bushings inside, V8 boxes have bearings. There is a cast in bumb on the top that tells a V8 box. I don’t have a photo right now.

As I recall the steering boxes from the B vans will work also.

Thank you both for the reply’s.

Currently the car has a power steering box in it.

I would like to switch to manual for engine compartment simplicity.

Does the 1968 b body use the small sector shaft like the early a bodies?

And

Are there any economical aftermarket manual boxes available before I go tearing into this old leaky a body box to rebuild it?

Thank you again for the help. It’s greatly appreciated. Thanks. Eric

It is small sector (1.125) and in 73’ they went to big sector (1.250).

No problem.

Define "Economical"....
PST has their manual steering chucks on sale for around $300 occasionally.

That wouldn’t be bad.

I’ve seen some new ones listed on eBay pretty cheap, but that can be sketchy.

We have an early a body manual box that needs to be pulled apart, cleaned, inspected and adjusted. Install new bearings and seals and install in the b body with a new b body pitman arm.

Just exploring options.

By the time I’m done messing with our old one, $300 dosent seem to bad.

New ones are cast iron....Not sure if the weight difference means anything to you.

Even the PST ones? Never knew that.

Not really concerned with weight.

Is there an advantage to using cast iron, or is it just cheaper to reproduce?

Thanks again. Eric

PST is aluminum, had one on my Dart. Worked perfectly and everything bolted up correctly.
The only company I know of with cast iron manual box is Flaming River.

Hmmm....I thought that all the new steering boxes were cast iron since it is cheaper to produce.
Sorry for the wrong info.

Power boxes yes, manual depends where/who you buy it from.

You weren’t wrong Kern, just incomplete, lol!

$300 for a new manual steering box is a deal.
I think I paid close to that for a remanufactured one.

I know this thread is over a year old but I thought I would ask here, I have a 1964 Dodge Polara that needs a new steering box, PST and Flaming River list them for 1966 and up, they can't tell me why it will not work in a 1964, can anyone tell me if it will work or what the difference is? Manual Box.

As I recall the output splined shaft (tapered) is larger diameter on later models.

Are you talking about the Sector or the pitman arm end, if so can I use a 1966 box and pitman arm on my 64?
