1968 Satellite Roadrunner GTX.. Valve body on top of power steering box. PS fluid return line goes into it.
Under that top cap retained with the two bolts and it is sealed with O rings around the ports, there is also a coil spring . One end of it the coils are close together and the other end , the coils are spread apart. The spread apart end instals down . Question : how does it act if that coil spring is installed upside down? Someone else had that cap off to install new o rings, and may have put that spring in wrong..... Thanks for any help.......MO.....

Don't think you can install the spring upside down.... But you do need to center the valve block so the steering wheel centers properly... If the wheel is drifting to one side or even full on slamming to one side the valve needs to be centered...

Yes, it was pulling slightly to the left, and I corrected that by centering the top of the valve body. I just recently learned that could be done. Saved me from having my front end alignment re-done.
According to other internet research , it was mentioned that the coil spring can be installed upside down, but did not say how it would make things react. My steering still does not feel the same as I think it should, and the same as it did before someone else installed new o rings that go under the valve block cap. I don't want to take that cap back off unless there is evidence that the spring may be upside down. Thanks for the input.........................MO

I'm no expert on this, but I can't think of any reason why that spring being upside down would change anything. I mean, there's nothing in there for the "closer coils" to block & the spring has the same tension, regardless of whether it's facing up or down....just thinking out loud here.
