Would it have been possible to order a 1969 Charger R/T with air conditioning AND a 4 speed? I think I've heard you can have one or the other BUT NOT both. Sound right?

Thanks for the insight.

Buddy

Yes, I believe no 440 4 speed AC cars were built.

383 and 400 with 4 speed and AC- yes.

I've heard no - Chrysler worried about replacing A/C compressors after a missed-shift. I could be wrong though . . .

'68-up, no 440 4-speed a/c cars.
I do remember an ultra-rare c-body 440 4-speed a/c car being documented,
want to say a Fury or some such? 1 of 1 car.

440 4 speed with H51 code for AC

Better pic. Pulled it off the internet.. Not mine.

On the 69 Coronet R/T fender tag....Checked with someone who's got allot more knowledge about codes & tags & broadcast sheets than I do... His comment...

lots of mistakes, J54 & N42 are the humorous ones

& not in a good way
it also has a restamped engine VIN - was on eBay? or other September 2012, May 2013 & July 2014

VIN to SPD is way off. Bad tag and doesn’t prove the original question for which the answer is still “no”.

I been told the only engine packages you couldn't get A/C on were Hemi and 6bbl cars regardless of transmission package. Something about not enough room for the compressor with the multi-carb packages. I think all the nay sayers are right, you couldn't get both (4spd, A/C BB car).
If it was offered in the 60's what hard core gear head in his right mind would order a 4speed big block car with A/C :realcrazy:, I would rather put the cost of the A/C into something that makes me go faster... but that's just me.

Can we agree to not disclose any flaws on the tags on the Internet? It just helps the crooks make better fake tags. Please change the above posts.

If you are trying to learn then just post a picture and ask if it’s good or bad, but nobody say why it’s bad. This will help someone from making a bad purchase, but not inform and educate the crooks.

No one said a BB car. They said a 440 car

No AC on Hemi, 6 pack, N96, or 440 plus 4 speed.

The first three are clearance related, but I've seen dealer AC on a few N96 cars using the York compressor.

Why a 440 4 speed might rev higher than a 383 or 340 is not especially clear to me.

This may remain a mystery as to why, but I'd certianly like to know the rationale.

..although now I'm curious about pre-1968, but I don't think I've ever seen a 67 either.

440,426 with 4 speed=3.54 or 4.10 rear so engine rpm will be higher than anything else. Maybe part of the reason?

What about radiator size?
Dont most BB Auto's have a 26"?
Would AC on a larger motor with a smaller 22" radiator effect cooling?

yes it would
26 inch only for A/C cars from the Factory
22 with a BB has a hard enough time keeping up on its own.

Amen. My GTX is a 22" radiator from the factory. I changed that pretty darn quick. No way to keep it cool.
