anybody have experience with using a 408 stroker and a 904 transmission in our heavy b body cars?

What car are you thinking?

I have not tried that, I would think the cost of getting a 904 up to that level to be way more than just swapping over to the 727. Just my opinion.

The stroker won't be a problem with that car. The 904 should be built to take a little more abuse though. You apparently already have a small block and 904.

I'm lucky I have a brother in law that is into Mopars. He can rebuild anything, and he knows different tricks when rebuilding a 904 or 727 to make them last. There is no cost difference between 904 or the 727 when building them to last.

yes I'm running a SB 300-325 HP and 904. He upgraded the internals a couple of years ago and had me use a 2400 stall converter. The transmission is bullet proof and the fluid is bright red as the day we put it in.

Go for it!

A well built 904 is good for up to 500 hp. If you already have one ready to run I'd use it! 440'

408 Stroker. 425 HP - 500 Torque. I'm going to have to get stock in a tire company!!! Not worried about the 904 holding up to the stroker.

The numbers matching 318 and 904 from my 70 Satellite droptop are out of my car. My plans are to build the 318 as stout as I can and beef up the 904 to handle it, put a sure-grip and probably 3.23's in my 8 1/4 rear.

NJRR
going to keep it all oem or oem looking?
as stout as you can? thinking of a 390?
what is stout?
heads will not flow enough for a HP high rpm build so build a torquer to go with the 3:23 gears
with those heads it is easy to get to enough cam that more gives no more HP up top and just kills more of the low end

I'm not an engine builder, so not really sure what's the most I can get out of it. I'm looking for someone in my area that knows Mopars to do the engine and transmission build and do the actual swap for me.

"most I can get out of it"
opens a can of worms
drag only?
towing monster?
define how you want it to drive
what torque curve
tell most engine builders
"most I can get out of it"
would get you more top end
than
Stout" whatever that is
should be some members in Jersey or Philly

Before I bought the Satty, I had a stock 70 RR with a 383 and a 4speed and 323 gears. If I can approach that performance with my 318 and 904, I'll be very happy. Just a weekend driver for me, no racing or towing.

The fellow hasn't been on for a few years but he has a 410 stroker with a push button 904. Runs 11.0's through the mufflers.

the best way to get 383/4spd performance is to.........use a 383 and a 4spd

Agreed. But I gave that up for the droptop, so I'll settle for as close as I can get !!!
