Looking for some input on what gasket sealant seems to work the best. I have a 440 I'm getting ready to install in my 65 Belvedere that I disassembled for painting and need to re-install the intake, water pump and housing, t-stat gooseneck, fuel pump, oil pan and valve covers. Its been quite a few years and I'm sure there are new products that I don't know about. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Permatex Ultra Black . . . Used it on my 66 Chevy II intake manifold and have great results. . .

Permatex Ultra Grey on the water pump, fuel pump and timing cover.

Permatex High Tack for the cork valve cover gaskets and cork oil pan. I glue the gasket to the valve covers and oil pan. Leave the mating surface to the block and heads clean.

For the intake I like Edelbrock Gaskasinch on the tin and fiber gaskets.

I use ultra-black on non-coolant parts, gray is great too but tougher to get apart. Copper spray on intake gaskets. I personally don't like any of the 'aviation' type stuff, it works but it's always gooey especially when it gets hot. The main thing is, they will all work, but it's your prep and technique that determine how successfully..good luck and throw in some pictures we love 'em:D

I have gone to Gaska-Cinch primarily on everthing except intake pan gasket, thermostat housing, and intake pan gasket. I used to always use the sealers everyone is talking about. Since I switched to that on-Especially the oil pan gasket and timing cover gaskets--I get ZERO leaks. Mopars are notorious for leaking out corners of where timing cover meets the oil pan. Since I switched to that-it goes so easy and much quicker than sealants--and I am staying totally dry. I drag race my 440 primarily and that used to always push oil out sides of oil pan gaskets no matter what I did-Now I stay completely dry. I tell everyone about it and that is all I use now after 25 years of building my Chrysler motors. It is not just for intake gaskets! It works AWESOME!! Try it folks.

Try LOCTITE 515.

You're going to get a bunch of answers on this one. We've all got our favorites....
For example, I just installed a new oil pan on my 440 (while it is still in the car -oy!).
I got it from the 440source fellas and they were strongly advocating Permatex Ultra Gray,
which struck me odd for an "oil seal" application - but even after I told them I was doing
this once and while on my back under the car, they insisted on the advice, so I told them
to toss it in the box.
Lo and behold, that junk just flat WORKS. Good enough for me....at least 'til the next time. :)

I love ultra gray, much better than anything else I have tried. It's the only thing I will use on water pumps and what isn't coming apart for maintenance.

You'll get 1000 different answers.
Here's what I do:
Intake - paper gaskets on both sides of the pan and a light smear of lithium grease.
Water pump to housing - nothing or RTV
WP housing to block - nothing
T stat. - RTV very light assy torque. Tighten the following day.
Fuel pump - nothing
Oil pan - no gaskets, just RTV
Oil pump - nothing
Valve covers - nothing
Timing cover - same as t stat housing.

JB weld grey gasket sealer. I swear by that ****. I've used about everything. it will seal anything. I especially like it for intakes and valve covers.

I have been using Permatex Ultra Copper for around 35 years and it has never failed me.

Good luck with your choice.
