Me and the wife will be moving to east T.N. in the next couple of years . I'm wondering how tough T.N. is on old cars as far as registration, inspections ,ect. What can and can't you get away with like noise, fuel cells , fender laws . Basically wanting to know how much of a p.i.t.a. the cops are or aren't toward the hobby and what the reg. and inspection policies are.

Do you mean Tennessee?
The way that you wrote it as T.N. makes it seem like a place with a 2 word name.

East TN is ok. No emissions or vehicle inspections as of now. Some places in Middle and West TN are a little different depending on the county. I run a 1965 and 1970 plate on each of my cars so after initial registration/plate fee there are no annual tag fees. Cars are also exempt from wheel tax. Still a lot of 93 octane fuel around is also a bonus. I run quiet mufflers, but the Drag Radials sometimes give you away :)

*ears perk up*
Did somebody say EAST TENNESSEE?
Hmmm, let's see here...I don't recall seeing any entry applications from S. Jersey....
There ARE entry standards, after all. We have to be choosy, you know. :)
(It's not just a joke - we actually don't care "how it's done where you came from")

Seriously, from "S.J." - basically, everything will be better with your rides. Everything.
Degree of "easier" depends on city or county you choose to reside in, of course.
Out here in the ridges, there is no personal property taxes on vehicles, no emissions, and I
run a one-time payment "Antique" tag on the GTX - never have to pay registration on it again,
lifetime, just like with @tnfastback and original year tags.

You can be cited for defective equipment and such for burnt out lights, busted windshields and
the like, but for the most part, if you're not a constant danger to the rest of us, they'll leave you be.
Welcome to 'Murica! :usflag:

The only requirement to move into east Tennessee is that upon arrival you knock a tooth out and kick off your shoes.. Oh and also there is the Squeel like a pig thing ya gotta do.

East Tennessee also has the best bumper rechroming business I know of. Tri City Plating
Fair pricing and life time warranty.

Bristol/Elizabethton area

That's funny ,i just dropped my bumpers off at Tri-City plating in Elizabethton on my way to Maryville Tn.I asked about them doing the rear panel on my 64' and they told me to call R&D finishing just 1/2 mile down the road. When i grab my bumpers from them i'll probably drop off some other stuff to that shop.

You know, I feel bad for the folks in Alabama - they give us someone to pick on up here in TN.
Of course, AL folks ain't totally left out in the cold, either....they will always have the GA inbreds to kick around.

Beautiful area for sure.
Elizabethton is full of history and the natural beauty that is the Roan Mountain region.
They have a heck of a car culture there, too - huge cruise-ins are a regular thing there.

You know I hear the jokes about red necks and moving there from people around here all the time , I think thats about as accurate as thinking everyone around here name is Pauly,Vinny or Joey bag of donuts ( although i did go to school with a Joey bag of donuts, later to become Joey Baker the bastard maker). Point is ,i'll take a red neck over a Camden **** tard any day.

Ah, Maryville ! I have been there many times ! SIL has a cabin in Townsend just outside the park (a couple miles). My wife and I both love the area. If I wind up not following my job to another state, then we will most likely retire there.
There are lots of old cars there. Plenty of early 50's and up on the road or for sale. It is like a car guy smorgasbord !

I stay at Whispering River campground right on the Little River in Walland when i'm there, love it.

Lots of old cars running around that area. A friend lives in Knoxville and he and his buds hot rod all over. Lots of cars and coffee gatherings. The cops seem to be okay if you aren't an idiot.
A few places sell race gas from the pump if you need it.
