A buddy of mine that lives in THIS:


Bought a 1979 Dasher and after realizing what a POS it was, tried to get me to buy it.
Uhhh....NO.
Many years later but before he lived in THIS:

He bought a Diesel VW "truck". 50 mpg he claimed but the dang thing took 15 minutes to get to 50 mph.
Guys that live in TeePees seem to be slow learners.

2011 Ford Edge w/ 3.5L Duratec P.O.S.
This motor has the water pump inside.
At 55K (2016 & out of warranty) the water pump bearing failed, seal failed, and sent antifreeze into the oil. Drove for a bit wondering what the antifreeze smell was w/ no external drip. Long story short...$8500 for a "new" motor. Never again, Blue Oval, never again.

In the late seventies I went looking for a C-Body Mopar wagon. I found a real nice ’71 T&C. 383 quad, fully loaded. Even had dual air! 2 weeks later I hadn’t even got the title back from PA DMV when I motored smartly into a Lincoln MARK IV head on! So because I had the very nice parts car I went looking again and found another T&C, a scrufty ’70 this time. 350 Horse 440 and all the bells and whistles again. All of a sudden it wasn’t running right. Replaced the ballast resistor, and then again and maybe a third time, then replaced the coil. THAT was the problem, threw the damned thing across the parking lot. Then the effing Holley went south. I was getting 4 or 5 MPG! Then I went to use the A/C or the heat and the controls just fell back into the dash. And then the windshield posts were rotting away! I had enough! It is the only car that I have owned that was licensed, inspected and insured that was still a drivable vehicle that I parked and broke up for parts!

Then there’s my 2001 Subaru Forester. At 146,000 the thing turned to crap. My late wife and I went on our normal 10 day October vacation in 2014 through western Virginia and North Carolina. I am starting to hear a whine and it wasn’t my wife! The final day we made the run from eastern North Carolina to home in South Jersey, across the Bay Bridge tunnel and up RT. 13. All the way up the noise gets louder and louder. I took it to the dealer and told him I thought it was carrier bearings. He said it was the center diff in the AWD. But never gave me a quote. So we parked the car, used it occasionally, and in early 2016, when my wife wasn’t doing well I decided to cheer her up and get it fixed. I took it to the dealer at told him fix it. $2800, ok do it. About 2 weeks later the service manager calls and says it’s done but the center diff was half the problem it needed carrier bearings! I laughed at him. So I have it for about a month and I’m finding an oil leak. Oh, it needs head gaskets. WHAT? You did all that work and didn’t notice the oil leaking out of the heads? It’s my wife’s car ok do it. So now I’ve put $5,000 into a $3,000 vehicle. The Forester is the 8th ‘Ru for my wife’s family. All the other ones were or are fine vehicles. My son got 380,000 miles out of his 2WD 1994 wagon. I love driving it but am I going to have another, NO!

I haven't had much luck with the imports I have had. The Subaru, and VW seemed to have issues. The Audi was nice, but parts were expensive.
Only have had two FORDs, 2005 Contour that was recalled for a bunch of repairs, and really started to have issues around 60K miles when I sold it. Then the F250 powerstroke. Had some late 1970's Chevy Van and Truck that were fun to drive, but both threw rods (350, and straight 6).
The Mopars have served me well, and usually when there was a problem it was easy and fairly inexpensive to fix, but my newest Mopar is a 2005 Ram 3500, so I don't know about the newer stuff.
My 1997 Chrysler Concord LX 3.5L was a great car. Plenty of power, 24 MPG City/30 MPG Highway, dual zone auto temp control, etc. Only problems in 230,000 miles was the heater blower control module needing replacement, and the electric fuel pump going out around 130,000 miles. Only thing done to the car were regular maint with synthetic motor oil, the silencer removed from the intake, and a K&N air filter element that was put on when the car was new, so I never had to replace a paper air element on the car, and the engine was still running great at 230,000 miles when the transmission started to leak real bad and we donated the car to charity.

Mercury Sable. Car was loaded and actually not bad to drive but many problems, mostly electrical and the transmissions

It was easy to work on.... which was good... because it always needed worked on.

That is beyond retarded, I get compacting things to a degree but a water pump inside the motor! I've got a good friend who works on cars for a living, he just had an Ford truck (diesel) in his garage for a motor swap, you have to pull the cab to swap motors!!!!

S10, hated that truck!! I swore I'd never own another, it begged for mercy hauling a V8 and just wasn't a nice driving truck plus gave me headaches.. mostly the computer. My Dakota on the other hand would haul 1 ton with little complaints and only left me stranded once with a bad fuel pump in 130,000 miles.

2003 Cadillac CTS. Jeez! Steering rack, A/C system Valve cover gaskets, both rear window regulators, and the list goes on and on. Oh yeah, turn ignition switch off....engine keeps running. what a piece it was!

Two cars: '89 Eagle Premiere we bought new around the time Chrysler bought the Eagle/Jeep from AMC. It was actually a Renault design as I recall. The car had electrical gremlins and eventually a friggin major replacement of electricals costing over $2500. Long history of **** with this car. My '02 Olds Intrigue I bought with 30k on it. The head gasket went at 50k and my local mechanic said he can't do this work on Cadillac motors (didn't know the Olds 6 was a Caddy motor) so Caddy dealer did the work costing $4800! I got lucky here as the extended warranty I got covered it. I had two Aurora's with the V8 engines, Cadillac NorthStar's, and was fortunate not to have their head gaskets go considering the repair costs. I had my eye on a CTS and nixed buying after my Intrigue encounter. I could bitch about my daughter's '06 CRV but long enough post here already...

1978 Dodge Challenger. Yes, the Japanese Challenger. Had the 2.6 MCA Jet engine. Carburetor had more issues than you could shake a stick at, and seemingly an equal number of vacuum lines as I recall... I got it in 1986 and within a few months it became virtually un-drivable. It would always start, but getting it to move under its own power was always a question mark. I hated that car.

I'll never ever ever own another fuel injected GM truck never.

Sold it, bought a Dakota. 200k later still own the Dakota and a few more Dakotas.
The reliability of mid nineties Dodge pickups is very understated. 5.2 or 3.9, still twice as good as any competition from the era.
I like BBodies because theyre beautiful, I like Chrysler as a whole because of the reliability of their trucks.

Defiantly not a better idea

1998 Oldsmobile Aurora too. 4.0 North Star. Orange Dextron coolant of death. WTF. Everything went wrong. Biggest scavenger hunt was the shutting off for no reason at a red light. After a few thousand parts thrown at it, it was the crank position sensor. A grunt at a Chevron Station finally came up with this saying it was the most out of stock part on the shelf. Moved tons of them. Smart guys couldn’t figure it out.

1980 Gran Prix, and 2002 outback

Sorry to say it but my worst was a '76 Ramcharger, it looked good but barely had enough power to fall out of a tree and got 8 miles to the gallon.

Great news! I just bought my daughter (17) a 2011 Traverse after she wrecked her 07 Maxima. Runs good so far but I do get a funky check AWD system warning on occasion but then it goes away...I'm sure this will be a problem.
