just wondering if anyone has had trouble with getting a good ground on there coolant temperature sensor after going to a aluminum water pump housing? My gauge is working but is reading on the cool side. I tried a new sensor and it's the same. I'm sure it's. Ground problem.

Pretty easy to prove. Grab a piece of wire and wrap it around the sensor body, then ground it to the battery or frame.

I did that 69 and the gauge does a full sweep. Must be ground

Have you taken it for a good drive yet? Mine will get a air bubble up at the sensor sometimes and it gives me a low reading until I'm out on the road for awhile. I still have my original dash gauge hooked up and I'll check that when it happens.

Ok I will try that kid. I was grounding the terminal.

If sealer is used when installing your sensor it can insulate it from being grounded. You can try installing the sensor without any sealer and it should be ok being a taypered pipe thread. Also make sure there is a ground from the engine to the body.

Brass type sensors should never use sealant of any kind. They should seal fine when tightened. My SW electric temp sensor is off by 10 degrees showing hotter than it is. Going to a mechanical gauge when I get around to replacing the housing.

Aluminum or cast iron, does not matter. (Aluminum is a better conductor than iron anyway). Problem is, new senders are 90% crap and seem to rarely work properly. I went through 3 before I found a keeper...one napa, one O'Reilly and one from 440 source. I think they're selling us mostly re-labeled gm parts...

Yeah, I've wondered about that, too. Another fine crap part. Toss in temp spikes, more head scratching. If you have a good 'old' one, use it.
