The engine in my car had used chrome 426 valve covers installed by the prior owner when they rebuilt the engine. I would like to replace them with the black wrinkle finish ones. I can get the chrome ones powder coated in black wrinkle finish for $40. They need minimal prep to the surface no pitting or rust. I do not know if they are Mopar performance covers or just aftermarket ones; since they do not leak they are a good candidate to reuse. All the original ones, I can find are either pricey and/or still need to be repainted. Any advice on this?

Incredible what they ask for those valve covers. I think you answered your own question...$40 or $750.hmmm

Not a bad price for repops.

I would stick with what you have and get 'um done.

There are no cheap wrinkle OEM style covers
I can attest to that.

Bought a pair of chrome repo Hemi valve covers 5/6 years ago. They were avaiible from many vendors, $120. Haven't used them the quality of covers looks ok, thickness of metal is good. Chrome durability well that is to be determined if I use them. Sorry I sold a pair NOS aluminum Mopar valve covers.

I seen them one on EBAY. Those are 66-69 mine is a 70. I am concerned that the repops may leak too. Also, does anyone know if the area where the O-ring sits is also a wrinkle finish? I am wondering if the original ones are flat there and not wrinkled to form a good seal with the O-ring. I spoke to the powder coater about masking that area off to keep it smooth.

A painter friend of mine is an expert at wrinkle finish.

I have watched him doing jobs...an absolute expert.

I did wrinkle finish on several pairs........Piece of cake.

Mine were polished at one time. I used Duplicolors engine enamel wrinkle paint and placed them under heat lamps and used a heat gun.

Guys that care can spot original covers vs repo covers from 50 feet... The oil fill cap is clocked wrong... Other than that they seem to work fine...

Hyjack! Anybody got a pic of original 66 covers? I wanna compare what I have. Reason, the spark plug wire looms on the driver side look backward, the other has the alternator-coil wire clamps so thinking that’s the pass side.

Do not. I repeat do not buy the cheap knock offs from ebay. Tried twice. Both sets were garbage. Recoat your original pair.

I sandblasted them today and will drop them off at the powder coater tomorrow.

Cheap reproduction are junk. Measure them they are wider and don’t seal
