Took my yearly treat today and flew on what I understand is the last flying Liberator. Quite a different flight than the B17’s I’ve flown on in previous years.
Rougher in flight, louder and a bunch more places you wouldn’t want to drop a cell phone. Lot of gaps to open air. This craft still sported a lot of original equipment onboard. If you care to see a bunch of videos I took search me on Facebook, Dan Juhasz

My uncle was the top turret gunner on one of theses. They were shot up and crashed landed on their 13th mission.

I took a wrong turn one time and went up to an old building. Didnt realize there was a runway right next door. Anyhow I was asking for directions and ended up at a hangar. Inside were some older guys just plucking away at an old B25. Those guys were really cool and let me and my coworker crawl all around this plane. One of the coolest things ever. But these were some of the birds at a local show. I have always loved the Corsair. Baa Baa Black Sheep as a kid.. Never got to ride in anything cool. other than a Old Biplane forgive my spelling but I think it was a Stinson.. I have pictures of the B25 but gotta find them on my hard drive. Edited this post. It was a B25 not a B24...

B24 is the plane my uncle was in when it was shot down over Germany. He and only one other airman survived. He eventually was captured and sent the rest of the war as a POW...RIP Uncle Gus

These guys had balls of steel real men flew planes with props. One hell of a generation back then.

My dad was a B-24 pilot in the South Pacific. He told very few stories. B-24 was long range at the time, good for the Pacific. One Sunday afternoon we were watching "Victory at Sea" episode about bombing the Jap base at Truk. He commented he had done several missions there. Many, many Zero's filled the sky, lots of holes in his plane. One time taking off, from Guadalcanal, I think, came under sniper fire from a tree, nose gunner cut the tree & sniper down with twin .50's. My mother installed Norton bomb sights in B-24's before meeting my dad. Those planes were very tight spaces. Life & peoples attitudes were very different in those days.

My Dad also was a Top Turret Gunner flying out of England. He also, did not talk much about it, other than having to un-hook the bombs that did not dis-engage on the Run, while flying back over the Channel, with spud wrenches, so they would not pop off during landing. He made 24 Missions, and was shot down on their last. He spent the rest of the War being marched, and taunted by the German Population, from Stalag to Stalag. They were Truly The "Greatest Generation", That gave us This Great Country We have today...

Last year, the restored B-17 Aluminum Overcast came to the area on their tour and I just had to go see her.
Wound up a wonderful experience. Great people associated with the support of that plane (the EAA owns it).
Talked to a lot of vets who showed up from the area - good Lord, the stories!
All this from a guy (me) who's never flown in his life - honest, I've never been on a plane, least in the air.
Nonetheless, I'm fascinated by these restored pieces of history (especially B-17's for some reason)
and catch any of them that I can.

Sentimental Journey, another B-17 came through a couple years back. Another gorgeous beast:

I do know that if I ever do work up the courage to get on a plane and actually fly, it will be on one of these...

Go for it! An experience you won't forget.
Though, be forewarned. While on the B-25, invited one of the guys from work for a ride 'around the patch'. When he climbed out, he was a little green around the gills!

Witchcraft buzzed my house a few years ago. Awesome sound and site.

Man, I'd be on that bird in a heart beat if the chance came! I like the early open cockpit bi-wings too and got to go up on a newly restored 38 Stearman several years ago. Loved it!

Thanks to all the guys posting pictures!.....A picture is worth many words and if only others here on the forum could do the same here......

Great history and the displays the stories of real heroes....

My wife bought me a ticket to go up on Nine O Nine for our anniversary a few years ago...but the weather had other ideas....

The 17's fly more gracefully than you could imagine. You would be thrilled by the experience
