I find myself in need of a new (rebuilt) alternator for my '69 Charger suddenly. I haven't bought one in 35 years so where is a good source? Need a single field, single pulley unit for a big block R/T.

Is that the original alternator to the car?

I use these guys for my rebuilds...

After getting too many remanufactured alternators from Auto Zone, O'reily's, etc off the shelf that were bad, I found these guys that are local to me and rebuild starters and alternators themselves... They make their own windings in house and I have gotten great results from them...

We got three alternators for my son's Valiant at Auto Zone we took his old one (luckily we didn't trade the core in yet) to these guys and they did a great job the first time...

No, but it is a period replacement from Mopar. It has been on the car nearly 40 years. Which brings up a good point, it is a far better core than getting an off the shelf rebuild. I am just trying to get my car back on the road quick as possible now that I have time to enjoy it.

look up powermaster alternators for after market.

Napa. Better unit than the other parts houses (in my experiences anyway) and good price. Single-pulley might be special order though....I only have one belt but use a double pulley unit, because that's what they had in stock at the time, no problems.
Good alternator for 'back on the road quickly'...

I was in need of one. I found one that was close . but I made sure I kept my original one.. I payed a core charge .not a big deal.. same with the starter.. kept the original one to the car as well. Nice to have all the Original parts to the car. :)

Looked at NAPA, what they had was a newer square back case instead of the earlier round back which is correct for the car.

Thanks for the tip on these guys, I will be contacting them in the near future to look at getting my "period correct" core re-manufactured.

Gentlemen,
Out or curiosity, why don't you rebuild it yourself? Alternators are simple devices....6 diodes, 3 positive and 3 negative, one rotating field, 2 brushes snd holders, two bearings (sheave end is a 6203 shielded and other end is a caged needle roller bearing, one stator assembly, plus a few insulated washers.
Most "rebuilders" will just install new bearings, clean up the brush slip rings, install new bearings and carbon brushes, sandblast everything to look nice. Very seldom will new diodes be installed or a new stator assembly or the rotor be spun balanced. If your original alternator is origional...37 amp or 46 amp unit...the capacity is stamped onto the frame, near the output stud along with the part number and build date code. The alternator has a three phase fullwave bridge circuit. The diodes change the generated AC (hence the name alternstor) to DC, the rotating field energizes the stator with 12 volts DC. I always search for NOS Mopar parts at swap meets etc. Very simple to understand and repair. I always repair my own units. I recently purchased a NOS, CORRECTLY DATE CODED, complete with factory inspection marks, a 37 amp single groove sheave two brush unit as a spare for my RS23V0A******GTX. I'm sure you have rebuilt far more complex car systems....why not the charging system? Just my opinion of course.

I just upgraded to a powermaster unit and have an original style one I'd sell. It's a rebuilt distributor that only has around 1000 miles on it. It was working perfectly when removed but wasn't keeping up with the electric fans I installed. PM me if you are interested.

I like what my son did which was upgrade to this 100 amp one wire alt.Its nice to put the higher output on his car since we will be adding an electric fan and maybe a few other things. I like that it looks like a stock Mopar alt but it has an internal self exciting regulator and will put out 100 amps if needed and it one wire. It is a Power Master and it works great. You can use it on any older Mopar as it will only put out what the car needs so it will work fine on your car and if you upgrade things later you have some extra output if needed. And being its a one wire all you use is the output wire. Ron
