hey guy i had a question for ya. im looking at a 68 charger R/T. its missing the original motor and trans, also the data plate. nut on the bright side it a beutifully solid car. the trunk pan is still solid. the floors everything. it does come with a 440 and 4 speed pistol grip installed. aslo comes with an extra 383. hes asking 20k with i personally think is a bit insane. what do you guys the the value is on such a beast?

Hard to say without pictures, but 68-70 Charger prices are outrageous right now.

If the mechanicals are sound and the paint and body are even in driver condition, 20K is a very fair price.

I agree with NJRR . if the body is solid, thats more than half the task.. and a whole lot of grief.

Ive seen alot of well wishers hope to catch a 6 eyed fish up here asking a whole lot more for a hood and fenders.. and you shovel the body out of the soggy ground..

Ok so how badly do you think No Data plate hurts it. also non matching motor and trans.

If you are looking for something to drive and enjoy, those things don't matter. But if you are looking at it for an investment and plan on doing a concourse restoration, then look for something with verifiable documentation and matching number components.

Does it run and drive? How rusty is it under the rear window trim? Get in the trunk and shine a light up. Second gen Chargers are priced really high, as others have said. Not really a bad price for a 4 speed car that's solid. Take 18 cash and peel off the thousands, see what happens.

its solid under the rear window trim. the only rust i could find was scaling in the trunk but nothing rusted through,

Need to get pics. These guys on this board can zero in a little bit better with the pics and get a better idea on value for you. It would also help if you can obtain any docs on this car. As many have said 2nd gen Chargers are priced very high, even project cars.....Good luck

When you speak of Data plate, I hope you are referring to the fender tag. If you are missing the VIN plate from the dash, that is a completely different story. Other than that, I'd say a legit mostly complete and rust free 68 Charger R/T is worth $20G any day.

Keep in mind that with fender tag and numbers engine and trans the car described would be closer to $30-35k. That’s without seeing pics.

Missing fender tag would bother me. But as long as the dash VIN, radiator support, and trunk gutter #'s are there you will be ok. Build sheet would be a huge plus if it is in the car. Like stated above, second gen Chargers are bringing crazy money and have for awhile now - especially 68's and 69's. Original RT 4-speed cars are the cream of the crop. If it is as solid as you believe and needs no metal replacement, he will probably get the 20k for it. I wouldn't dilly dally around. Get over there with 100 dollar bills in your pocket and get it bought. Start at 15 -16k and see what happens, but pay the 20 if it is as nice as you state.

68 the radiator support & trunk rail numbers are the VON so don't expect them to match the VIN... Hopefully you'll find a broadcast sheet cause it will tie everything together...

Check the VIN if the second digit is S than it's a real R/T though honestly if it's pretty rust free & you can buy it for 20K or less being a real R/T is just a bonus....

Is it originally a 4spd or was that added?

Data plate is a GM term. Our cars have "Fender Tags".
Chargers are expensive now with or without the documentation. The value of the car with Fender tag, original engine and trans is mostly related to the R/T models. Despite what sellers claim, a numbers matching 318 means almost nothing to many people. Same with a 383 2 barrel. Good luck with it all.

68 Charger R/T in the condition you describe for 20K is the deal of the month. Grab it if you can but check it out thoroughly first. The fact that he's only asking 20K for a good, running, driving, 4 speed R/T makes me nervous.

With out pics, with your description, if it was in my neighborhood I would buy it right now. I’m looking at 68 RT, 383 auto, with rusted quarters, lower front fender, lower door, some of the floor pan, around the windows. And he’s asking 25k, I already have a 68 ready to go in for body work, always looking.

Well since a 383 wasn't available in a 68 R/T you need to look harder...

Sorry for the short, the 383 is out of a 68 Coronet, tag is XS29.
