BluePrint Engines 392 Hemi Interest? Thoughts? Comments?

Let me ask you a question Johnny. How much actual cost difference to you does the difference from 392 to 426 mean? Are you building your own block or? Why not a 440 CI option? You can get low mile pull out 392 chryco engines for $5-7k with ecm's and harness. They come with forged crank, good rods and better pistons than most and ~500 hp of the box.

Valid Questions, and let me see if I can hit all of them.

Why a 392 vs a 440, and the cost difference?
a 392 allows us to utilize a core engine block. As with any of our performance built engines, basically everything is tossed besides the block, main caps, and in this case, head casting. In doing a 426, or a 440, We'd have to buy a bare block from chrysler (if they are even available from their constant" vendor of the week" production style, and off the top of my head, thats a $2000ish block for a 6.4 starting point. And we still don't have heads.

Comparing a performance build crate engine, with a 30 month warranty, complete turn configuration, dyno tested, forged everything, isn't really apples to apples with a takeout 5.7 or 6.4 IMHO. If you're confident in pulling one out of a wreck, and have the ability to make it run with the wiring, tuning, etc, then no problem. No crate engine company will ever win the cost comparison to a "takeout" you're buying what I would consider a premium offering with the benefits above, and the piece of mind that the engine wasn't pulled out of a 300K mile patrol car that was wrapped around a tree. (obviously being a little funny there, so take no offense) so no re-pinning,no reflashing, and many many production improvements vs the oem.

Addressing power.
the stock 6.4 has 485 I believe. I stated high 500's on ours...(flirting with 600, maybe even over) maybe i should have stated it that way. so we're talking approx 125 more. Not 50. I think thats pretty decent.

There are ways to take this platform and delete the VVT, and put the old reluctor in it. we may explore that also. I have one non VVT hemi, and 2 VVT hemi's in my garage, so already thinking just like you.lol

so thats where my heads at for the moment. This will be a project that will take some time. So will be cool to see what pans out. if we can save cost without sacrificing reliability we will.

All very good points and answers what I was wondering about. I like playing with engines, so myself, I probably would find a long block and rebuild with some upgrades if I was doing it. But I completely agree the reliability of a freshly built by professionals engine with a warranty and good parts is worth more. I hope you guys put some good parts out into the market for us! cough...distributor drive...cough
 
I've been contemplating going the modern hemi route in a couple of years when the old low compression 440 in my Sport Satellite needs to be replaced. Just started doing some research on the swap and came on this thread. I'd be very interested in something like this as the MP crate engine was what I was looking at and adding up all the different parts required to make the swap work comes close to 10k+ anyway. Plus I'd rather be closer to 600hp than 500, the 440 I've got now feels a little sluggish and is supposed to be in the 450hp range.
 
Still working hard on this. It's all quoted, done on paper. Aiming for over 600. Parts ordered in. Hoping to have something early summer. Should be very similar to our LS 427 GM in price, HP, and configuration.
 
Any updates on the new platform?
Will more than likely use the new holley DBW terminator X system, as long as it supports DBW, and the pedal isn't insane.

i have cores here to start test builds. probably still a few months out from that point. We have a lot of pokers in the fire, so hoping i'm only 5-6 or so months out.
 
I know covid threw a monkey wrench in everyone's plans, but was curious where this project stands?
 
I’ll tell ya what, if it was LS anything, you could go down to you’re local grocery store and pick one up.

Hey Fellas, Yes covid brought alot of projects all but to a halt. Have a tester mostly assembled, we're just the busiest we've ever been. Its not canned, but not really moving at the moment. Sorry that I don't have a better answer. I keep telling those above myself, I'd have these sold if they were done.
The biggest killer was honestly the cancelling of sema, and the hotrod power tour. was supposed to be doing onroad testing by then, and when they killed the tour, the "rush" to get it together was lost. couple that with MEGA oem contracts...Johnny Macs Hemi isn't at the top o the list unfortunately.

Zero cores. Used to do a 493. Aftermarket blocks are ridiculous, and the volume isnt there to tool up for our own. We build 50 engines a day....unfortunately as cool as some niche engines would be, something we'd sell 20 a year of, would actually COST us money

We have done LS engines for years. The aftermarket is saturated, that's for sure. Finally the hemi is coming around.

Especially as readily available as the Hemi is. You can find them in the junkyard for under $1000. They should be available on Summit for 6K like an LS.

Emphasis on "Finally"
Cant say I disagree at all, but you can thank chrysler for not supporting the aftermarket, purposefully locking ECU's, inflating prices, etc. Not to mention their fly by night, vendor of the week approach of building a dozen of something, and discontinuing it before the ink is dry in their catalog.

I wish we made hemis already, but when I hear things like comparing a performance crate offering to a junkyard swap, that's exactly the sandbox we dont play in. We aren't a reman company. If someone wants a $900 junkyard engine....then they need to be looking in junkyards. Ours would be forged, make 600 horse, etc.

Not picking a fight or anything, just stating some hurdles and reasons why hemis arent as cheap, available, or supported by aftermarket companies, in comparison to an LS.

GM has a mega performance division dedicated to swaps, and selling crate engines.

Chrysler has a couple production line engines they they cant even produce or keep a ecu and harness in stock for.

BLUEPRINT manufactures 50 engines a day, and we can make, support, and build a hemi, yes, BUT, it has to be worth the squeeze, and we have to have volume. Again trying to fit design and R&D time in, amongst huge OEM contracts, makes it that much harder.
