LCA rebuild

Thanks 66 Sat. I'll see if I could get that locally.

Yeah rrTor-Red, I guess maybe I could. I seen Wayne had to buy a 5 gallon bucket of the stuff. If my memory serves me correct he paid $400 Canadian. I picked up a spray can of it and the color matched nice but it hasn't hardened yet and I did the test card over a month ago. Easily scratched off. I see Krylon makes some battery terminal protection spray 1307 part#. The reviews seem to be favorable for a match but they won't ship to Canada. Can't ship any aerosol cans up north here??? I only know of one fellow that ships paint bombs, and I wonder if it is done legally??
That all being said I would just like to get a paint that looked like the stuff.

Different ball of wax up here in the Great White North.

Looks very nice and probably what I should have done, but pending what your final plans are for the car, you could use the real stuff like I did if you want the correct factory result. As Island Kent noted I have a 5 gallon can of the CORRECT Cosmoline and when time permits and the Daughter's wedding and Taladega is out of the way I may start offering an LCA service for those that want it correct.

If you do go the paint route, it sets rock hard in 24 hours. I did a couple of coats of Metalshield primer first. A 1 liter tin is about $40 here in Australia, off the shelf at the local hardware store. It all depends on what the final intended use is for the car. I was going to paint them black but then I noticed the color on some other restorations, liked the look, and started researching what the finish actually was. Once I found out it was cosmoline, I realized it wasn't an option financially, plus I'd read it can be removed with de-greaser etc and thought it may collect dust and dirt over time.
My car isn't, and never will be show car. I've built it to be as practical as I can make it, so I don't find excuses not to drive it. That's the beauty of the hobby, the freedom to adapt the car to suit your requirements (it helps being overseas too, as most people don't even know what car it is, never mind the finish on the LCA's!)
