Max Wedge valve lash

Hi everyone, new to the forum here. I was wondering if anyone knew what factory valve lash is for a 426 max wedge. Thank!

That site looks like a great resource. Unfortunately a '63 service manual isn't on there...

I have a question for you. We chat a bit here about rarity in parts and "the things that used to be". A maxie cam and lifters, meaning factory original parts would be a rarity indeed. Do you have a .507/300 or the .520/300 used in '63? The reason I ask is that if your query was about something that is not factory stock parts, then the lash question is for the cam builder, and not what the factory specs are, even if we are talking Mopar Performance Purple Stripes, etc. Unless of course you are just doing research. I'm referring to the original .507/300 cam. The car has original cam, push rods and rockers. Putting it back together to all original.

Notice how early cams like the Corvette used similar lash
We ran that (those cams) till Isky developed his first (and for a long time only) cam for a MOPAR lifter I forget the grind number maybe 1012B - A very consistent cam.
I used it for a long time to dial in chassis
Then came Racer Brown
you might think about EDM holes in the lifter face
also check the radius of the lifters in case you have to have them refaced
IDK if new lifters are the same radius
you can check the angle of the taper of the cam lobe and I can tell you
grind was most likely camcraft (or some similar name- I forget)

Ever notice cold 28 intake and 32 exhaust is VERY common? My 451 B-block with B1 and custom grind cam. Comp cam's recommended lash? You guessed it!
 
what grinds?
some of their older ones used those numbers
nothing wrong with that- they were milder than todays max cams
but you can do a modern cam that's easy on the valve train and tight lash
just BVVC that you are not getting a 40 year old cam design
like the "30-30"

My point is cam profile doesn't seem to effect lash all that much. (At least in the big block world.) I would be curious of performance SB builds?
 
There are several ramp designs and ramp to flank interfaces
newer designs have an easy transition
older ones are more abrupt
also makes a difference on the closing side-
newer cams are way asymmetrical and lessen valve bounce
the long ramps on the Mopar stock HP cams were for warranty- they kept quiet as the cam and lifters wore out
They are backwards for performance
Lots of threads on 318 with 340 cam unhappiness
340 and Magnum cams like high compression to have any low end (they do work at higher rpm but even then not as good (low lift, low area under the curve) as a modern grind)
which takes premium gas- good luck with that- gears, converter
 
IMHO lobe design dictates the lash and how the valve acts at opening & closing(along with valve spring compatibility). The grinder will know. The older "bigger" cams seem to use more lash than the newer design ramps.
