Happy Labor Day to all. No rest for the Wicked however. Waiting on a crane so we can remove this beast from the Jamaica Way in Boston. The Gradall boom struck the overpass flipping the Gradall. That is one Strong trailer hitch!

And one STUPID driver!!!
i started driving box trucks down at the docks in charlestown.
very first day, boss says to me go here drop off come back...
im young dumb and dont know the streets at all,ask for directions,he pauses rattles them off.
i drive to the place drop off ,on the way back and start down into a underpass,
im looking at the bridge and thinking boy thats low...
Realize hey that Is way too low and slam the brakes on..

top corner of the box hits the underside of the bridge, crumples it for a few feet.
then i have to back out and find another way to the shop.
get there, drive in the lot, every guy in the shop comes out and starts laughing and pointing...
i do the walk of shame up to the office, and tell the boss.
he comes out, tells the guys he gave me bad directions and lets me off the hook..somewhat.
those guys teased me Forever about that..first day on the job no less
moral of the story?
never take Anything for granted....esp directions or the Height of Your load!

Totally agree! He says he measured the height before he left. I said is your tape measure metric?
A tape measure was his first mistake. I use a height stick similar to the one pictured below. I NEVER assume height or width with an over sized load.

Happy Labor Day to you as well & all others here also. I am celebrating in the usual way, working. To many shift workers, there really are no (holidays) as we end up laboring no matter what. I seem to recall for many of the last dozen or so Labor Days that it seems to rain more often on this day than any other (holiday?). Maybe the wet weather is symbolic of the tears cried for all the jobs we lost to over seas manufacturing. :(

I don't recall any underpasses on the Jamaica Way. Is that the Jamaica Way overhead?

Its a swivel type pintle hook. Used in HD applications. It turns with the trailer.
If that dump truck didn't have that type of hook it also would have flipped.

I work for the local Cat dealer. We load everything for shipment all over the US and Canada.
I still am amazed by the risks some of theses drivers take. Once we loaded a 963C on a high deck trailer, driver was good with it. I wouldn't take it across the street.
but its the driver's responsibility.

Labor is a bitch :poke:

Happy Labor day to all my working class compadres
