I have a 66 dodge coronet. I have just completed a disc brake conversion on. Before I did the conversation I was having issues with the left rear tire "locking up". I figured it was the drum brakes seizing up from the car sitting up for a few weeks at a time. I live close to the coast of south Carolina and right now we are expecting a hurricane in the next few days so I moved my car to a safer place. As I was loading the car on the trailer with a com-a-long I noticed that same wheel locked up. When I had the car up on jack stands I had no issues turning the wheel in either direction. I apologize for the long post but I felt I needed to explain it in a little detail.. I appreciate any input on this.

Parking brake cable possibly sticking?

OK So you just did a rear disc brake conversion ? And just pushing the car , trans in neutral the left tire is locked and skidding ? Correct so far ? When you flushed/bled the brake system did you get strong flow from all bleeders ? Have you jacked up only one side at a time and checked for free rotation of both sides ? Is differential a Sure-grip ? Any other recent work to rear axle area that was done before you started having this issue ? To diagnose problem, you have to check everything that can be related to that area one at a time.

Process of elimination , if it's not the E brake:
Can't be master cylinder, or both wheels would be stuck.
Can it be a rim that doesn't clear the caliper?
I've heard of the flexible rubber hose separating on the inside and impeding the back flow....

Check your rim clearance......I think I've had this issue with my 66 Coronet

Entire brake system is new.. transmission in neutral. The flow seemed to be strong . I have not jack it up from the side but I will try that. I'm not sure if the differential is a sure grip or not. No recent work to the differential has been done to my knowledge. My dad owned this car before me and we talked about this issue. The only work he did was change the rear wheel bearing and a visual inspection of the third member. He said he didn't see anything obvious that would cause it to lock up.. I changed rear wheel bearings from the original cup and cone to the green bearings per the disc brake conversion kit from Wilwood. Wheels roll fine in both directions with the car on jack stands..

I have new stainless steel braided flex lines installed.. I made sure the wheels cleared the calipers. They are new and shiney red.. I don't want to scratch them so I triple checked..

....and nothing silly like: the tire binding up in the wheel well?? My 66 coronet just cleared 235R15 tires

If it was doing it with drums. Then you switch to disc. Same problem. It turns free on a jack then it’s not the wheel. I’d guess the axle bearing locks up with weight on it. I’d pull the axle and look at the bearing.

I'm going to pull the axle and check the bearing.. then I'm going to add a .020 thick shim to get more clearance in the middle. I have a friend that I talked to that had this same issue as me . He said the shims fixed his problem.. I appreciate everyone who took time to help me. I'll keep you posted.

What are you shimming? Middle of what?
