What did the rich kids in your high school drive?

Graduated in '79 in the DC suburbs, A serious case of NYC envy was pervasive amongst the cool cats.
Izod shirts with that stupid little alligator on it, "popped" collars, lots of Biffs and Skippy types.
BMW's were their choice of rides, with a smattering of Mercedes tossed in.

Did I envy those critters? Nope, not one damn bit.
Had a lot of fun mocking the whole scene, really. My buds and I were into American iron instead.
I cut my teeth on the various GM products (I had a '68 Chevelle SS 396 at one point!) but that all
changed when my friend bought his childhood dream car from his neighborhood, a '70 T/A Challenger.
Next thing I know, I'm hooked on Mopars and have a '68 'Bee ($2,200!) and it's all about clubs and
shows and showing Muffy and Skip just what WAS the "ultimate driving machine". :)

Still is, really.

I graduated in '88. I went to school with the son of the guy who was partners with the owners of the San Francisco 49'ers. The kid got a brand new Firebird for his 16th birthday. He smashed the right front fender up. Then he smashed it again... then again. The following year, daddy bought him a NICE '70 or '71 Cutlass convertible. He proceeded to beat the **** out of it. I remember him pulling through the lot with the top down and 6 or 7 other people crammed in the car. Oh yeah, it didn't take him to smash up the right front on that one too.

Rich (aka spoiled) kids had Vettes.Only a few. One kid,his dad owned the local Chevy dealership. He drove a Cosworth Vega. Most of all of us just drove beaters.Plenty of clapped out muscle cars back then.

I took the bus all throughout HS. You want a car you needed to be able to buy, insure and maintain it on your own.
I had cars I bought while in HS with money I saved but they were just to fool with and if they did run I drove them in a big field my grandparents owed. They were either free junkers or the one I paid 25 dollars for
Around May of my last year in HS I bought a 64 GTO for 8 hundred dollars I saved from pumping gas the last couple of years
I registered and insured it when I started full time work that summer.

Graduated in 1972. 1st car as a junior in 71 was a 66 Belvedere that had the basic 273 in it. Was a great riding car until my neighbor borrowed it to go up to the party store. Came back with the keys. Some dumbass in a dump truck blew thru a stop sign and t-boned the car. Next car was a 58 Chevy Impala which had the 348 in it. Loved all the chrome on that beast. Some of the rich kids that I knew had their own little vette club or they had the latest Mustang. Bunch of snobs. They were your friend if you could fix something real quick on their car.

I had a Henry J . 327 2 spd.. Not much for a start in school.. but it gave other kids cars a run for there money.. when I left school.. I earned up enough for a Used 67 GTX and gave a whopping 2500 cdn for it.. .. sold that, and graduated to a 73 Pantera. that took all of 2 weeks to loose my licence in.. it sat for 2 years.. :)

other than that the other kids were all about equal for there starter cars.
Man i wish I had a henry J now. My dad bought every one he could when I was a kid.

graduated in 89. one girl had a brand new grand national. teacher had a hurst olds. when i turned 14 pops bought a 1960 corvette that had been drag raced to **** and back. started restoring it and he also bought a 51 chevy pickup for 200 bucks. restored it too with the help of one of the mechanics that worked in the shop for him. every day after school and on weekends. Its all i did, guess it was pops way of keeping me out of trouble.

Don’t know if I remember rich kids in HS, I remember like it was yesterday that we owned the back of the lot with about a dozen or more muscle cars, like Boss 302’s, Roadrunners, 442’s, Dusters, and Nova’s, mine was a yellow Cougar Eliminator my parents co signed for.
We had a water box area for burnouts after class got out.
And we all made fun of each cars rust issues.
Those were the days my friends!

Let’s see if memory serves me right

Two brothers whose parents owned a gas station, one has a Cuda 440 sic pack and the other had a Cuda with a 4 barrel

One guy had a 67 Coronet RT with a tunnel ram sticking out of the hood

There was a 67 Nova that ran modified production. He ran that on the street

A 69 big block Cuda

A 66 K code Mustang fast back

The really cool kids ran Cragers, tunnel rams, Mickey Thompson tires, and “I Love My Hooker Headers” stickers on the front fender dog legs.

I had an old used car, 69 SC/Rambler, headers, torquer manifold, 850 double pumper, Malory duel point dizzy. Man, I wish I still had that car.

In my day, the rich kids drove the same rusted out P of S that us poor kids drove because their parents didn't spoil them like todays under guided, over privileged punks have handed to them now days! They had to go out and earn it like everyone else!

97 Graduate here, went to HS in small, old money town. Most the rich kids drove new Acura,s BMW,s but there were a lot of newer Chevy trucks and Jeeps. One guy had a $30k+ Jeep and traded it for some fiberglass 32 ford roadster with a stroked Chevy, about 2 wks after he got it he wrapped it around the parking lot bollards and completely shredded it. Showed up a couple wks later on a brand new Harley fat boy. I drove a 84 Hurst olds that I bought for 1200 bucks. Looked cool but that 307 olds was a dog. Never could get the lightning rod shifters to work right.

The very wealthy (next town) had new cars, our school it was “mom’s” car. Always big, like a wagon.
I joined the Marine Corps day after my 17th birthday so my first ride was a deuce and a half.

I first drove my parents 1960 Pontiac, it had kind of a bubble top roof on it.
When I got my first job I bought a nice used 1959 ford 2 door hardtop, I paid 200.00 for this car and both of these cars I should of kept along with some more that I owned.
We drank a lot of beer in that old ford.. you wouldn't do that today.
Preachr.

In ‘75 had a used F100 (Uncle was a used car dealer) that we 3 sons drove. 3-speed column, straight 6. Safe transportation.

A friend had a Mach One. New. To say it was impressive is a disservice.

1985 this was my second Cuda....first one was a 71 340 car (318 when I got it) power window, air, rocker gills, wing rear defog, and a few other things....it was ruff..then I got this 70 340 4 sp car the was a ton of fun...I payed for it with my dish washing money...the rich kids all had IROC'S and mustang gt's...A few of the football players had IROC's that were gifts from schools they ended up at. the only car that was a match was a yellow 73 camero that the kids dad built for him 350 4 spd....the kid was a good kid tho...he worked for his dad in the garage ALL the time so it wasn't a big deal.

No "rich" kids but the ones who had parents that owned businesses and, or, grape acreage had more money and they drove the muscle cars from the late '60's and early '70s wit a few newer sports cars tossed in. Everyone else basically drove heaps or projects, or the family second car..

about all i remember is a lotta sedans and station wagons...
.....and tonys cars.
tony was The rich kid,and he drove a 70-1/2 camaro z28 like he had stolen it.
350 with a 4 speed.
he used to take it up to the masons lodge up a long road that was plowed with high banks.
then hed spin it around and go back down it At speed,
bouncing side to side, off the snowbanks!! all the way down.
no clue how many times we did that....but...heres the kicker.
when summertime hit,the z would vanish and he would break out his 69 nova..
with a 6 cylinder ...yeah..and he babied that car...it Gleamed like a brand new car.
we used to rib him a Lot about the z and the nova.

o,and seeing as we are doing first cars,
mine was a crappy 2 door duster that had a welded up a arm that broke every other month.
that car cost me at least 5-10 times what it cost to buy to get it rewelded.
however...i lived in a small town, and i used to drive said duster around with no plates,
no insurance no reggie nothing.
the cops left me alone, because i was the non drinker and was always taking a crew of drunk friends home.
they may have felt sorry for me as well, driving that pos,lol !!:steering:

Funny how they all said they bought it with their own money. I could never figure out how they made their money, none of them worked. Oh well
Trans Ams, Camaros, a couple Tri power Vettes.
I drove a dodge van when I couldnt ride my motorcycle

Went to a small high school and graduated in 81. Mostly middle class. The one spoiled guy had a brand new Loaded Blazer complete with a winch. Not a bad choice since they hunted and fished. My best friend had a new Mustang. I don't remember many muscle cars .
I did not get the bug until I was in junior college.
