So this happened about 6 months ago, but I just blacked it out of my mind. Now I'm ready to look into fixing it and wanted some opinions.

I had a girlfriend that liked to sit there in '78/79. Mine must have been lighter.... LOL

How'd you manage that??? (ah I see... hood peeled back shot wasn't there yet!)

Do you like a vinyl top?

Sad to see on that nice car. A good body man can fix it. Hard to find a good metalworker these days. Need to remove headliner.

That typically happened to thoughs with taller intake than hood could accommodate. Thus bowed putting pressure on hood release. If 2nd hood notch was missed? All it takes is a decent bump in the road. More common in older performance upgrades back in the day.

Been there, done that !! When I first got my RR I went about installing hood pins and removing the hood latch, etc.. Well "of course" I forgot to put the pins in one day !! Fortunately I wasn't going fast when it flew open but it did buckle the hood. My fix ... bondo'd the hood and made a 'glass mold then made a 'glass hood.

A buddy of mine forgot to put the pins in his lift off hood and one night it flew off and the car that was a bit back of him ran over it lol. Don't think he ever did that again!

Oh man....no one but no one sat on my cars. Had a step daughter that thought sitting on cars was cool and the 3rd time seeing her doing it I walked up to her nice and calm and got in her face and quietly told her that if I ever again caught her sitting on one of our cars I would beat her until she couldn't sit down. She was around 14 at the time and it seemed to get her attention because it never happened again.

My buddy killed a few hoods on his trans am and I killed one on it too! Those stupid good pins always stayed in the head light bucket area 79 ta I think between me and him we bought all trans am hoods in the area

Stock pins!?

Regarding how to fix, you need a stud gun and puller. You use the pins to pull the dents out and leave the interior in place. Once pulled out, mud it and repaint.

yeah, I've heard about going that route. I tried paintless dent removal but the glue wasnt strong enough to pull the dents. Also i have the headliner out, but hammering it doesnt seem to do much either.

I thought about using a heat gun from the inside and trying to bang it out again!?

Another idea! I would have to at least fix the dents first right? the vinyl wouldn't lay right i think, and plus drilling holes in the rear for the vinyl top trim to hold it down.

yes i believe they are too deep.

Also, i will be doing the work myself and want to do this cheap!
after it has been mudded, i had a crazy idea...
vinyl wrap an american flag on the roof vs painting

Bottom line youve still got an awesome car there probably the envy of your entire zip code

I have to keep reposting because if I edit I can no longer speak and I'm too lazy to text, one thing I would consider is that windshield is still a danger to break while you're hammering away trying to repair dents I would take into consideration that there's still a risk of losing that windshield too, be careful live with it , the hood you've got on it now looks great
