Wilwood disk brakes or Drum brakes ?

Need input from both sides of fence on disk or drum brakes for my 1965 Coronet AFX car . I know that the disks stop better but what combo are you running ? I have the 11 inch drums up front and the back will be from a 1965 Monaco with the 3 inch shoes and big drums . Any input will be appreciated . Thanks John

I went 4 wheel Wilwood. Drums are ok, but heat fade and deep water both were reasons I switched.
 
FKM, I have the big 11x3 s on my old car, I've always said that I can stop as good as anybody, once, after that I'm done. as long as there is time for the brakes to cool between rounds you should be alright. be sure to use a double master, you should be fine. Dave.

Thanks for your input , The drum system should work just fine on my car for it's intended use . The car is a street car and will never be raced by me , I am 70 years old and just like to putter around and see folks faces when they see the car . It's a Pro street AWB 65 Coronet that I have been working on for many years . And yes to dual master cylinder . I just could not justify the cost of the 4 wheel disk set up . Again Thanks John

I had my 10x2.5 shoes relined with carbon metalic but have not tried them out yet..Anyone tried this? Supposed to stop better the hotter they get. Not sure about drum wear or relign probs. Could be an option for you especially with 11x3's
 
Stock mid 70's "A" body manual disks and knuckles. I have less than $500 in the entire setup.

I had to step up to a dual master and front disc back when I got down to mid 10's @ 125/127 MPH. Installed the SBBC set up in the front and still have the Dana drums out back. But as I now approach 150 MPH either I need rear disc or have to start throwing the chute out! I really enjoy racing with the AWB cars.

 
10.68 @ 126 with a 3300 lb 68 road runner and 11's all around.....no problem stopping and could hot lap it so long as I didn't try to take the first turnoff. The old track we had at the time didn't have a very long shut off like the new tracks do. Just don't use the cheap shoes from AZ etc.
 
Try the drums first and if you don't like them then go to disk.

I have drums on my '62 and they sure brought back memories. You do need to keep a little more distance just for added safety. Would disk be better? Probably but I like the feel of how it was originally.

I did change to the 15/16" dual master cylinder.
