Not really a mopar but I am really starting to like this thing, traded my LS powered AMC 660 for it. Fresh paint and really solid as in no rot or filler that I have found. One of those deals where the guy ran short on funds to finish it, interior need work and a good cleaning of the fuel system. Just a little 304 with a auto on the floor.

They are nice cars. I scored a 69 AMX 390 4 speed project car from the local Craigslist for $ 700.00. Pretty solid car, complete except for the engine and I bought a 68 390 engine from a guy on Moparts who put an LS in his 68 AMX.

You don't see them every day, good luck with it.

You can see where AMC got their inspiration from....

My buddy got ahold of a black on black Donahue edition AMX, think it was a '72?
Good looking car, ran like stink once he rebuilt the 401.

LoL,my dad bought a pacer new in 75,car was such a pile he traded it off before it fell apart

A friend had one that had a 290 V8 in it. We beat that car like a rented mule and it just came back for more. We had a blast in it for years. Lol

I think I'd trade my '55 Plymouth wagon for that. I've always loved the '71 to '74 Javelin/AMX body style. Do they still use that weird AMC front suspension with trunnions?

the trunnions went away in 71...
the javelin was Not inspired by the fat whale mustang of the same years lol.
the only bodylines that was even close to this was the corvette stingray.
poor Mr Teague, hed be upset by that ford comment.
him And mr Kugler.
they specifically did the flared fenders for mark donahues trans am efforts.
needed more tire under the cars.

if you get one, always shoot for the 71-74.
the engines got dogleg heads after 70,which really improved the motors.
the transmission changed over to Mopar trans in 72,using a diff Crank as well in the motors.
most javelins that have been " restored" are not numbers matching and theres no way to tell,
because any and all body/engine tags are removeable.

71 grilles are priceless/amx grilles are as well.
All years used the 71 base grill as part of the Amx grill package.
keep in mind the cranks didnt change in 71,
so either get a 4 speed car or pass because 71 used the Awful borg warner automatic.

also,the rearends...sigh..
amc used Keyways to hold the axles and they break quite easily with any kind of power.
if you plan to keep it stock, plan on Double keywaying the axles.

finally value...the values are all over the place, but usually,
5-10 grand will get you a nice driver quality car...
the best of the best still only around 30 grand for a 401 4 speed amx car.
the parts on these cars is Often worth more than the car itself.

i have owned so many ive forgotten how many,
in fact i just sold a parts car/73 360 auto console car.
my fav was my white 73 401 4 speed amx, that i used to race and run shine in.

Good info, thanks

looks to be a nice project pick up
especially for a trade

I do like the earlier versions 68-70
don't know much about the 71 on

About the only car I would consider in trade is a 69 or 70 Coronet

Its compares to some of those southwest cars I have built in the last few years as far as a solid body, unreal how rust free it is for a WI car. Must not have ever been in road salt.
