The VA puts the screws to vets yet again

Actually, the court ruling is in fact making sure the VA will not be screwing vets, at least on this issue.
Good job, court!

Not only was the VA not reimbursing veterans’ claims, but the agency was actively telling veterans they weren’t entitled to payments for non-VA emergency care when, in fact, they are.

The VA can’t pay anything past 2019 cause, well, the future isn’t here, so how could they be liable for something that hasn’t happened?

Something doesn't sound right here... I have been in the VA system for 25 years after getting a medical discharge in Dec '94. I am enrolled at the local VA "Clinic", and go there for my appointments. If I need to go to an actual hospital for a non-emergency issue, I call a triage nurse, and due to my distance from a VA hospital in Tucson, I can go to the local hospital or make the drive to Tucson. Now, if I have an emergency, and must go to the emergency room, I have 72 hrs to contact the VA to let them know about it. Veterans who ETS normally might be treated differently, I only know from my situation.

I have a hard time believing some of these VA stories I see, because over the last 25 years and 5 VA hospitals/clinics, I have NEVER had an issue. There have also been numerous times the VA has bent over backwards to assist and help me in times of my stubbornness and ignorance of rule changes. I might be the exception instead of the rule though. Basically, I have zero complaints for the VA system, and they take care of me adequately...

Several years ago my dad could barley stand or walk. Over multiple visits the VA diagnosis was "inflammation" for which he was prescribed pain killers and muscle relaxers. Went to a local hospital ER. Turned out to be 3 damaged discs. Surgery had him straightened up and walking again. A couple weeks ago he walked up the ramps at the W Sox game with out issue at 87 now.

do not believe in The VA they never helped me one bit always a fight there do not even go to them for nothing F them

Yea, snake, I haven't been to the VA since I moved outta CA; I haven't been to the Reno, but Brother has no issue with them and I've heard good things about Reno VA. I do have to do some follow up that Oakland couldn't even get the facts straight on where and who I should see about my hearing. I still need to get that 10% for that! How does a 30 aircrew member w/7000+ flight hours not get a 10% for tinnitus???? Boggles the mind! Oakland regional VA has many issues to begin with, just glad I don't have to deal with them.

VA in Sacramento has always treated me well, the Modesto clinic basically blows me off... I’d like to deal with them saving considerable driving but they act like I don’t deserve treatment...

I’ll admit I didn’t quite qualify as Vietnam era, and far to long ago for any gulf war connection... But I did spend time on a beautiful little island called Eniwetok... during the cleanup operations... Probably not the best thing for my health...

Anyway regardless Sacramento treats me well...

And FWIW I have two cousins who use the Reno VA and they are both treated well so 69a100 you should give them a shot...

Look fellas, The VA is a huge bureaucracy that unfortunately has satellite facilities that become small fiefdoms for the head of the hospital there. These people tend to make decisions on their own regardless of VA policies. If you find a good VA facility then stick with it. I too am well taken care of here in Vermont. This was not the case in Columbia SC. In their defense they have an inordinate amount of veterans in a small area around Ft Jackson. Not enough resources to care for everyone at 100% efficiency.
The foregoing aside, there can be other issues which make your experience with the VA more difficult than you might like. Such as: your eligibility, your education of yourself on exactly what and who the VA is and what they can provide to you based on your eligibilities, the status of your claim (s), the status of your paperwork, your attitude towards the VA, their attitude towards you and availability of care issues at some smaller facilities and how engaged you may be in acting as your own advocate by staying on top of all of it online.
Do your part, make sure your own ducks are lined up BEFORE you delve into the VA system. Don't assume you know everything, ask them, let them school you ( everyone likes to be the smartest person in the room). BE NICE. Be on time and don't miss appointments. It's a partnership and you have to hold up your end of it.
And finally. No offense meant here but, there will always be those individuals who mistakenly believe they are DUE either care, a disability rating for whatever, and or, are misleading in their accounts of service related issues in order to gain care or a rating. These people make it more difficult to provide services to those who legitimately deserve care.
Good luck. IMHO, from copious amounts of experience, the two most important things to do are, 1. Have your paperwork 110% together and up to snuff. 2. Do your part and hold up your end. Ghost.

On an unrelated note there's this.
Well, the deal is that the VA, at least here in VT, not sure about the nation, has subcontracted out the whole payment for services part to and outside contractor that takes a big cut off the top of what the VA pays them and therefore there isn't enough money to pay the going rates for dental procedures. Every dentist in Rutland county has dropped the VA / veteran patients due to not enough income from the VA payment system to even pay the hourly employees let alone the dentists themselves. My dentist is/was a military officer/ dentist and has told me that she and her staff will be taking their days off once a month to treat only the 12 Vets they have on that day for free. That's wrong and they shouldn't have to do that. I spoke to Senator Sanders office and they called back and told me what they can and cannot do and what they are working on to alleviate the situation. Anyway, all that to say that my dentist is squeezing in all the vets before the cut off of 1 November to get everyone at least stable. I had a broken tooth and two tiny fillings. So i'm good to go.

I have buddies that refuse to use the CA. facilities and make the trip to Reno because of it's good score. Knock on wood I still have my health, and just need to tie up some loose ends with my ratings and stuff they've missed. I'm currently on another mission to establish a homestead and get off of being a homeless Veteran status, this is my primary objective right now. My plate is full as it is right now!

Bingo.
exactly the same problem, except i have some other broken things as well.
mysteriously, the xrays were never shown to me and no conclusions were reached.
'except of course,the " inflamation "
i was prescribed some horse pills which i told them from the Start i didnt want.

then to top off my experience with the va,i had an appt with one of the group.
he was supposed to meet me At the hospital, and no showed..
a half hour later,i called him and he said o hey just take yourself in there do whatever.
stop by once you are done..
okay,so i blunder thru the va hospital and get tests done and leave go over to his building...
guy walks past me as i walk in...hes not in his office.
i call him again, hes upstairs just went past me....
he says well catch up next time....okay sounds good lmk.
Except, this asshole turns Me in for not coming to His appt....??!
and, after i told the head man what happened,Nobody cared??!!

from there on,i kept getting this 1 appt thrown in my face by the others in va,
and it pissed me off so bad im done with them and the bs lies and games.
keep in mind they never did a Thing for me and im more than slightly disabled.
their main focus the entire time was for me to fill out paperwork to get free monies from the govt monthly which i Didnt Want at All.
i Need medical care which ill never get.
but all They cared about,is numbers and handouts.
for anyone whos taking down locations, this is the VA in Bath ny.

so yes,not all va places nor staff are even close to being the same nor caring.

Guys, if your having problems with your local VA, here’s what ya need to do.

Go to your county Veterans Affairs office and they will help you......they are run by Vets.

I did that once here in Vermont and they DID help me immediately.

Pretty much sums up dealing with civilian insurance as well, to be honest...
