My husband is restoring a 73 plymouth satellite. Does anyone know what other vehicles the steering column is interchangeable with? The one in it is no good and new ones are expensive. Any advice is appreciated

Charger and Satellite are the only models that shared the steering column.

1973 is a one year only column.

a 74 could be made to work but may need some parts off the 73.

What is wrong with the 73 column you have?

4 door cars should also have the same column, and i case the OP doesn't know, the 4 door version of the Charger in 71 and newer is a Coronet.

For your column (OP) you can use any 1973 B Body: (and '73 only)

Charger
Road Runner
Satellite 2 door
Satellite 4 door
Satellite wagon
Coronet 4 door
Coronet wagon

The only differences within 1973 B Body is column shift vs floor shift.

if the problem is steering shaft related, can get any of both and just use the shaft from the donor.

But I'm still wondering what could be SO BAD to really need a full assembly. Steering column is serviceable, and the non serviceable hardware is hard to beat

The biggest issue I can think of would be the "puck".

I have a thread about that, using an actual hockey puck.

There is only one (maybe two) source for a correct repro 73 puck and they are very pricey (like over $100 IIRC).

The 74 and newer style is available down the street for $15 or less.

Ah yes, the hockey puck solution, and here is the compare picture of my options with the original, a steel one, and the hockey puck with steel sleeves. I have been using the steel one, it only cost 45 bucks but that was because I had to have a machine shop drill the larger holes for weight reduction.

I thought someone tried that LR part and it didn't fit.

I haven’t mounted mine up yet but I see no reason why it wouldn’t work. It’s a little thicker than stock but the pot coupler should more than make up for the difference. You may need new hardware, the lugs aren’t counter sunk. Or you can take care of that in two minutes on a drill press.

Those countersunk Philips head "bolts" and super thin pinch-lock nuts are a royal PITA to work with.

I replaced mine with 'regular" bolts and jam-nuts.

MUCH easier to remove/install.

Not all the parts are there and we arent sure what is missing to make it complete.
