I am in the process of buying a fiberglass hood and I am wanting to use my stock hood hinges with the springs removed. Anyone else done this? If so did you have to add any extra reinforcement?

Did it on a '73 Dart a few years back. Just used hood pins. Hood was nice heavily built from AAR Fiberglass. Hope this helps. It was on a drag car...no problems.

I tried hinges with a glass hood on a 62 Savoy some years back but even without springs it flexed too much when closing. Depending on a number of factors, you will at least need very light hinge springs.

Did you get your hood from Glassman? As far as i know ,he is the only source for 62 fiberglass parts. I'm contemplating a glass hood and bumpers for my 62 too.

There is a race hood that's pinned or zuesed on,then there is the street weight hood made for hinges. Sled City makes the both ways.

I would like to use the stock hinges both hood and decklid, remove the springs and torsion/spring bars. I would like to be able to retain the use of the key lock in the back if possible. Just wondering if anybody has done this yet? Also wonder if you had an aluminum support molded in the deck lid if it would help accomplish this. Really don't to use deck pins front or back. Looking for solutions/suggestions, keeping in mind the goal is to remove weight.

Have not purchased anything yet. Just trying to research options and "gotcha's" before I spend any money. My project is moving along and I need to make some decisions and get parts ordered soon.

There ia a guy up in North Salem with a vivid imagination.You might try talking to a few of him:rofl:

Obviously I am not only missing something but clueless to boot.

on my '65,i am using an AAR stinger fiberglass hood,,pinned onto the stock hood hinges and of course up front also..did not have to reinforce anything,,just set the height with rubber hose...now it opens the hinged way with a prop rod,,and can take it completely off in a matter of seconds,,

There are alternatives for 63, 64, 65 glass, but the ONLY scource of 62 glass that i know of is
@glassman/sled city.
Give him a call, tell him what you want to do, i think he can make the hood with or without hinge mounts, with or without scoop.

This is Larry at Sled City. All fiberglass hoods will bow eventually if hinged. We can brace them up and delay the bow for a couple more years. My clients use an aluminum angle bonded to the underside of the hood with 2 holes to bolt to the hinge. There was a guy on this site that had a 64 Dodge and all my parts on it and he hinged the hood and trunk and showed it very clearly. He was using a modern day Hemi either supercharged or turbo charged. Last I heard of the car it was for sale on here. Beautiful dark Blue 64 Dodge Polara.We make all of the 62 Dodge and Plymouth parts you need. Hoods, hoods with scoops,your choice, trunks, bumpers, fenders, lower front valances. Right now in stock I have 3 sizes of Max Wedge scoops, and a 62 Plymouth Hood with a stock size Max Wedge scoop. Give us a call here at Sled City

Anyone familiar with the car that Glassman mentions? Links? Photos? Thanks!

I have been looking at your web page and noticed that the weights of your products are not mentioned. Additionally, there has been mention on this forum of different weights race vs street and as you mentioned that there are options that allow for bolt-on vs pin-on. I wonder if it might be beneficial to create a post here to address these options and their construction. Looks like you have some items for the '62 to '65 cars that no one else does and this seems to be the biggest forum for those cars specifically. It would have made my decision easier, better informed and resulted in a more expedited sale if that information was readily available here or somewhere you could link to. Just my 2cents FWIW.

66/440 There is contact info for all that information on my website and I would be happy to talk shop with you. And for those of you that need that number, it is 1-614-875-0369. If I do not answer, your number comes up on my screen and I will call you back as soon as possible, usually within an hour. P.S. There are a lot of my parts on cars around Houston , all 48 states, Austrailia, Sweeden, Germany, and many other places. Check out the max wedge and 62-65 sites on facebook too.

At this time we have a flat 62 Plymouth hood for $350 and another 62 Plymouth hood with the stock size max wedge scoop as a unit for $550. Both are pin on and YOU can make them hangable.
